A method of reducing selenium contamination in a waste water stream is described herein. The method includes channeling a flue gas stream through an absorber, contacting the flue gas stream with an aqueous alkaline-based slurry, such that any selenium byproduct in the flue gas stream forms a selenium compound within the aqueous alkaline-based slurry, controlling oxidation of the selenium compound in the aqueous alkaline-based slurry, and adding a precipitation agent to the aqueous alkaline-based slurry to cause the selenium compound within the aqueous alkaline-based slurry to precipitate.

Systems and methods of reducing selenium contamination in waste water

A system and method of using the system for controlling oxidation of sulfites to reduce total nitrite and nitrate levels in a slurry is disclosed. The system includes a tank having an inlet for receiving a slurry produced in a wet flue gas desulfurization process. The tank also includes an inlet for receiving a gas. The inlet for receiving the gas is operable to disperse at least a portion of the gas received in the tank through at least a portion of the slurry received in the tank. A sensor is configured to measure a sulfite concentration of the slurry received in the tank to obtain a sulfite concentration measurement. In some embodiments, the sensor is a sulfite analyzer. In other embodiments, the sensor is a virtual analyzer. The system also includes a controller. Software executing on the controller generates an electronic signal affecting an adjustment of a flow rate of gas into the slurry in the tank based at least in part on the sulfite concentration/sulfite concentration measurement.

Oxidation control for improved flue gas desulfurization performance

Methods and systems for control and adjustment of the feed rate of mercury reemission control additives (MECA) to a wet flue gas desulfurization system. Predetermined sulfite concentration values are compared to actual sulfite concentrations measured in the scrubber liquid. The MECA feed to the recirculating scrubber liquor is then adjusted and regulated as a result of such comparisons.

A wet flue gas desulfurization (WFGD) system includes an absorber vessel operable to remove pollutants from flue gas supplied thereto. The absorber vessel defines a slurry section for containing a reagent slurry therein and an outlet in fluid communication with the slurry section. The WFGD system includes a mercury removal vessel in fluid communication with outlet. The mercury removal vessel has activated carbon disposed therein.

Mercury capture system and method for a wet flue gas desulfurization system

A process and system for removing sulfur oxide, other gases, and particulate from a flue gas. The process includes treating flue gas with a slurry formed from water, an alkaline reagent, and the purge stream from a wet scrubber in a spray dryer, thereby producing a dry by-product. The process further includes filtering the flue gas to remove at least a portion of the dry by-product, wet scrubbing the flue gas exiting the filter in a wet scrubber, adding a lime or limestone reagent to the wet scrubber, and producing gypsum. Activated carbon may be injected into the flue gas upstream of the filtering step and particulate may be removed from the flue gas upstream of the spray dryer.
