A centrifugal blasting wheel includes a pair of front and back wheel plates interconnected in spaced parallel relationship. Each wheel plate has a central opening defined by an annular surface of constant diameter. These plates are provided with respective cross-wise aligned grooves in their inner faces extending radially in equally circumferentially spaced relationship from the inner annular surfaces of the plates to the outer annular surfaces thereof and opening into each of the annular surfaces. A blade is removably mounted between each pair of aligned grooves. Each blade has a body generally in the form of a parallelepiped with an inner and an outer end and side flanges to define a blade of I-shape in transverse cross-section. Each blade has at least one retaining lug extending laterally from one of the side flanges and being substantially closer to the inner end of the blade body than the outer end thereof. Each such lug is provided with a curved, non-planar, smooth and uninterrupted abutment surface arranged to be in substantial co-extensive engagement with a portion of the inner annular surface of the adjacent wheel plate when the blade is operatively positioned between a pair of the grooves. This mounting arrangement minimizes development of stress concentrations between the lug and the adjacent wheel plate. The abutment surfaces are configured so that radial forces only are transferred from the lug to the adjacent wheel plate.

Bladed centrifugal blasting wheel

A blade for use in two different forms of centrifugal blasting wheels. The blade comprises a body generally in the form of a parallelepiped having an inner and an outer end and side flanges to define a blade which is I-shaped in transverse cross-section. The blade includes a first pair of laterally extending retaining lug formations which are adapted to engage the inner annular surfaces of the wheel plates of a first wheel thereby to retain the blade in place. Each of said first lug formations is arcuate and formed at a common radius with a pair of second retaining lug formations which extend from the side flanges of the blade in directions generally at a right angle to the direction the first lug formations extend from such side flanges. When the blade is used in a second wheel, the second lug formations engage abutment surfaces formed in recesses in the wheel plates thereby to retain the blade in place in the second form of blasting wheel.

An airless centrifugal blast device in the form of a one piece, two-bladed wheel mounted for rotational movement about either a horizontally or vertically disposed axis and means for off center gravitational feed of particulate media to the inner end portions of the blades with the particulate media feed tube means tapering in cross section to the discharge opening and extension of the discharge opening in the direction of rotation of the wheel.

Airless centrifugal blast device

A bladed centrifugal blasting wheel formed of a pair of spaced parallel wheel plates having a central opening through which blades are inserted into grooves extending radially from the central opening through the adjacent surfaces of the wheel plates, improvements including means for locking the blades between the wheel plates, impeller and control cage means for feeding particulate material onto the ends of the blades with centering means forming a part of the impeller for locating the elements in the central opening, resilient means adapted to be engaged by the blades upon insertion for holding the inserted blades during assembly, indicator means for showing the position of the control cage and means for providing air curtain to prevent accumulation of stray or rebound abrasive in the hub seal area during rotation of the bladed wheel.

Apparatus for transmission of sonic energy to the processing of work wherein the sonic energy is transmitted through a vibratory member to a fixture having spaced abutment surfaces in which the clearance between one abutment surface and the adjacent surface of the work piece, while the work piece is at rest on the other abutment surface, is equal to .+-.50% of the amplitude of the vibrations at the point of attachment of the fixture to the vibration generator.

A guard housing and liner for bladed throwing wheels, in which the guard housing is in the form of a trapezoidal section dimensioned to enclose the bladed wheel and a cover which fits onto the upper end of the trapezoidal section for pivotal movement between open and closed position and for removal from said trapezoidal section, and a liner formed of a plurality of interfitting sections lining the interior walls of the guard housing.

A method is disclosed for recycling industrial air. Air contaminated by particulates is removed from the area of machinery, transported to dust collectors, and filtered. A small portion of the filtered air is discharged to the outside atmosphere while a substantial portion is recycled to the area of the machinery. Significant savings of energy are realized while less particulates are exhausted with the air into the atmosphere as contaminants.

Method of conservation in processing industrial air

A blasting wheel for projecting particulate against a surface employs a blade lock arrangement which eliminates the need for securing the blade between a pair of plates separated by a spacer. Rather the blades are secured at only one end thereof by use of an improved locking arrangement. The locking arrangement employs a back plate containing a blade alignment channel and a securing element. The back plate is secured to the drive shaft by means of a hub. A front plate sandwiches one end of the blade between it and the back plate. The front plate is adjacent the back plate rather than spaced therefrom.

A magnetic separator is disclosed suitable for incorporation in a surface treatment device, such as, a particulate throwing wheel employing a rebound system to recycle the particulate. The separator includes a porous rotating drum having a set of magnets therebeneath to attract ferromagnetic particulate. A portion of the drum is pressurized so that nonmagnetic debris intermingled with the particulate is blown free and conveyed to a dust collector.

A vibratory finishing mill of the bowl type in which a short annulus of the bowl is depressed to define a well, and in which the parts are separated from the media, when the finishing operation has been completed, by placing a screen member over the leading portion of the well, as a continuation of the bottom wall of the bowl, to retain the parts on the surface while the media falls into the well for return to the bowl.

Method and apparatus for bowl type vibratory finishing

A finishing device in the form of an annular bowl adapted to house media and parts to be finished and means for imparting vibratory energy to the bowl to cause the media and parts to progress in agitated movement about the bowl, means for unloading the parts without removal of media from the bowl in which use is made of barriers introduced to extend angularly into the bowl with the barriers spaced one from the other across the bowl by an amount greater than the maximum cross-section of the media but less than the cross-section of the parts whereby the parts are retained by the barriers and caused to travel up the inclined barriers while the media continues through the barriers for continued excursion about the bowl.

Vibratory finishing device

A surface treatment device is disclosed which is capable of effecting surface treatment of the inside and outside of large diameter pipe sections. The device preferably employs an airless centrifugal blast wheel mounted on a support arm which is extensible into and out of the interior of the pipe section or, alternatively, along the exterior of the pipe section. The support arm contains the necessary power cables and ducts to connect the blast head to a dust collector and control panel. The pipe section is rotated on a motorized roller bed.

Surface treatment device for large diameter pipe sections

A method and apparatus for scrubbing particles of sand used in foundry molding is disclosed. The device utilizes a rotating impellor surrounded by a stationary control cage having at least one upwardly positioned opening therein to project sand against a target. The sand rebounds from the target and is continually intercepted and impacted by subsequent grains of sand hurled by the impellor through the control cage opening. The device produces a scrubbing action on the particles by the repeated and continual contact with each to reduce binder buildup from the molding process. A first stage scrubbing of the particles is obtained by causing the particles to be compacted between the rotating impellor and the control cage prior to their being thrown against the target. The sand particles may be recycled through the device any number of times in order to increase the scrubbing effect and further reduce binder buildup.
