A composite article comprises a first glass layer, a silicone layer, a second glass layer, and an organic layer. The silicone layer is disposed adjacent to the first glass layer. The silicone layer includes a cured silicone composition. The second glass layer is disposed adjacent to the silicone layer, spaced from and substantially parallel to the first glass layer. The organic layer is disposed adjacent to the second glass layer, spaced from and substantially parallel to the silicone layer. The organic layer includes a cured organic composition. A method of making a composite article including a first glass layer and a polymeric layer disposed adjacent to the first glass layer includes providing a dual-compartment chamber. The chamber includes a first compartment and a second compartment separated by a polymeric separator. The separator can be manipulated through pressure differentials between the compartments. Pressure is applied to at least one of the silicone layer and the first glass layer with the polymeric separator.

Composite article having excellent fire and impact resistance and method of making the same

High viscosity silicone compositions such as silicone gums, silicone rubbers, silicone elastomers, and silicone resins, are emulsified by mechanical inversion in which silicone water-in-oil (W/O) emulsions are inverted to silicone oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions. Silicone resins with a viscosity of about one billion centistoke (mm/s), i.e., 1,000,000,000 centistoke (mm/s) have been emulsified. These silicone O/W emulsions are useful in personal care products where they are capable of providing improved aesthetics. They are also useful in products used in the paper industry and medical industry. The silicone O/W emulsions are easier to handle than the high viscosity silicone in the emulsion, which enables the emulsions to mixed with other emulsions or other water-soluble ingredients.

Mechanical inversion process for marking silicone oil-in-water emulsions

Water-continuous emulsion of elastomeric polymers are disclosed having a solids content of greater than 75%, an average particle size less than 5 &#x3bc;m, and having sufficient stability to produce a stable lower solids emulsion upon dilution with water comprising; an elastomeric polymer, surfactant, water, optional plasticizer, optional low molecular weight acid, and is essentially free of organic solvents. The water-continuous emulsions of elastomeric polymers can be prepared by; (I) forming a premix that is essentially free of organic solvents comprising an elastomeric polymer and surfactant, and optionally a plasticizer and low molecular weight acid, and (II) adding water to the premix with mixing to form a water continuous emulsion of the elastomeric polymer having a solids content of greater than 75%, an average particle size less than 5 &#x3bc;m, and having sufficient stability to produce a stable lower solids emulsion upon dilution with water.

High solids emulsions of elastomeric polymers

A copolymer of isobutylene with 0.5 to 15 mole percent of a conjugated diene (i.e., a butyl rubber) is reacted with a silane having both an alkenyl group as well as at least two silicon-bonded hydrolyzable group, the reaction taking place in the presence of a free-radical generator, to provide a modified copolymer having reactive silyl groups grafted thereto. The modified copolymer exhibits a reduced molecular weight relative to the starting copolymer and may be used to formulate moisture-curable sealants, caulks, adhesive and coatings.

Curable silylated copolymers based on olefin copolymers comprising at least one C,to C,isomonoolefin and a vinyl aromatic monomer (alkyl styrene) are prepared by reacting the olefin copolymer with an olefinically unsaturated hydrolyzable silane in the presence of a free radical generating agent. The silylated copolymers are readily curable by contact with water (moisture) and a silanol condensation catalyst and are particularly useful as the polymeric component in sealant, caulking, adhesive and coating formulations.

The present invention relates to a method of preparing an aerosol suppressant composition and to use of the composition to reduce or suppress silicone mist in high speed coating processes and significantly increase the adhesion of the coating to the substrate. More particularly, the present invention relates to a method of preparing an aerosol suppressant composition by reacting an organosilicon compound, an oxyalkylene containing compound, and a catalyst. The composition, when added to curable silicone coatings, reduces the amount of silicone mist in high speed coating processes.
