An optical block includes a first surface that receives light entering the optical block, a second surface through which the light exits the optical block, and a reflector that reflects light from the first surface towards the second surface. The reflector includes a textured surface that scatters or absorbs some of the light received from the first surface to attenuate the light exiting the optical block through the second surface.

Herein reported are new tricyclic cytidine compounds, such as 8-diethylamino-tC (8-DEA-tC), that respond to DNA and/or RNA duplex formation with up to a 20-fold increase in fluorescent quantum yield as compared with the free nucleoside, depending on neighboring bases. This turn-on response to duplex formation is by far the greatest of any reported nucleoside analogue that can participate in Watson-Crick base pairing. Measurements of the quantum yield of 8-DEA-tC mispaired with adenosine and, separately, opposite an abasic site show that there is almost no fluorescence increase without the formation of correct Watson-Crick hydrogen bonds. Kinetic isotope effects from the use of deuterated buffer show that the duplex protects 8-DEA-tC against quenching by excited state proton transfer. DFT calculations provide a rationale for the observed photophysical properties that is dependent on duplex integrity and the electronic structure of the analogue.

Compounds for fluorescence sensing of duplex formation

A disclosed system may include (1) an artificial-reality display dimensioned to be worn by a user, the artificial-reality display comprising (A) a battery and (B) at least one recipient charging element, and (2) a charging case dimensioned to accommodate the artificial-reality display, the charging case comprising (A) at least one source charging element configured to interface with the recipient charging element of the artificial-reality display to facilitate charging the battery of the artificial-reality display and (B) at least one alignment guide that forces the recipient charging element of the artificial-reality display to energizingly couple with the source charging element of the charging case. Various other apparatuses, systems, and methods are also disclosed.

Apparatus, system, and method for charging artificial-reality displays

A spacer is provided to allow a surface mount device (SMD) to be surface mounted onto a PCB with greater degrees of freedom. The spacer is designed to be surface mountable to the PCB and includes an electrically non-conducting body that has a first surface facing the SMD, a second surface facing the PCB, and through holes and/or indents in the electrically non-conducting body to accommodate electrical conductors that provide electrical connections between the SMD and the PCB. The spacer may provide one or more of: an elevated height (so that the SMD is elevated above the PCB), an offset along the surface of the PCB relative to a designated position for the SMD on the PCB, or a tilt in one or more directions relative to a surface of the PCB.

Spacer for surface mountable electronic components

A rotatable wheel having a rotary shock absorber coupled on an axle and between a disc brake rotor and the rotatable wheel, for providing enhanced suspension. The rotary shock absorber consists of an air-tight hollow disc structure filled with lubricant, the disc structure further having a central circular opening, a sealing plate coupled to and sealing the central circular opening on one side, a sealing boot portion coupled and sealing the central circular opening on the other side, and a circular hub portion nesting inside the hollow disc structure. The hub portion further has six circular through holes, one or more identical helical springs nested firmly inside each of the six circular through holes, and six lug bolts each having two threaded ends and a smooth body. Each of the six lug bolts is further coupled rigidly and perpendicularly at the center of each of the two corresponding helical springs and secured on both ends at each side of the hollow disc structure.

The rotary shock absorber consists of an air-tight hollow disc structure filled with lubricant, the disc structure further having a central circular opening, a sealing plate coupled to and sealing the central circular opening on one side, a sealing boot portion coupled and sealing the central circular opening on the other side, and a circular hub portion nesting inside the hollow disc structure. The hub portion further has six circular through holes, two identical helical springs nested firmly inside each of the six circular through holes, and six lug bolts each having two threaded ends and a smooth body. Each of the six lug bolts is further coupled rigidly and perpendicularly at the center of each of the two corresponding helical springs and secured on both ends at each side of the hollow disc structure.

Rotary shock absorber

A fingerprinting device including a hollow housing having a finger receiving entryway, a paper exit, and a charcoal-laden pad coupled thereto for receiving fingers of a user's hand thereupon; a press area coupled to the housing at a location offset below the finger receiving entryway for receiving charcoal-laden fingers of the user's hand thereupon; an axially-rotatable tubular roll of adhesive tape coupled to the housing and extended over the press area and through the paper exit and with charcoal from the user's fingers adhering to the tape to thereby create a negative print on the tape; an axially rotatable tubular roll of paper coupled to the housing and extended through the paper exit; and a pressurized roller mechanism for temporarily adhering the charcoal-laden tape with the paper and fixedly adhering the charcoal with the paper as the tape and paper travel toward the paper exit to thereby create a positive print on the paper and with the tape removable from contact with the paper to allow the positive print to be directly viewed in hard copy form.

Fingerprinting device

The apparatus uses electric power lines to send and receive command, control, and data signal structures. Message signals are superimposed upon the AC power signals present on existing power lines. Transmit and receive sets are equipped with a unique individual coding (for identification and security) to complete the communication links. When a message signal is sent onto the line the unique code of the sending unit is placed at a predetermined position in the transmitted signal, such as in the header. Also the intended receiving unit code is placed in the message signal. In this manner, an individual receiving network at a given location will be activated only when its unique code has been placed into a message on the line sent by another unit. This coding ensures that only the intended location receiver will be able to 'trap' the signal. The signals sent will be mid to high frequency and will be composed of low level logic/digital bits.

Data communication using power lines

Polyimide foam of desired density is produced by adding to a polyimide precursor comprising carboxylic and diamine components at least one foam-enhancing polar, protic additive of the formula ROH, where R is hydrogen, or C.sub.1 to C.sub.12 linear or branched alkyl or cycloalkyl, unsubstituted or substituted with halo, aryl, alkoxy or hydroxy, and heating the resultant slurry to a temperature that does not exceed about 105.degree. C. to form a homogeneous melt. When heated to a higher temperature the melt foams and cures. The density of the foam is affected by the amount of foam-enhancing additive which is utilized.

Polyimide foam of desired density

A slurry is produced by adding to a polyimide precursor comprising carboxylic and diamine components at least one foam-enhancing polar, protic additive of the formula ROH, where R is hydrogen, or C.sub.1 to C.sub.12 linear or branched alkyl or cycloalkyl, affording a slurry. The slurry is then brought to a temperature in the range of about 40.degree. C. to about 105.degree. C., producing a homogeneous, transparent solution, opaque suspension, or melt. When heated to a higher temperature the melt foams and cures.
