There is provided a catalyst comprising from 0.5 to 7% by weight of trifluoromethanesulfonic acid incorporated onto an acid-form pentasil zeolite having a Si/Al atomic ratio ranging from 5 to 50 and a process for producing same. Also within the scope of the present invention is a process for the conversion of dilute aqueous ethanol to ethylene comprising: flowing said ethanol through a catalyst comprising from 0.5 to 7% by weight of trifluoromethanesulfonic acid incorporated onto an acid-form pentasil zeolite having a Si/Al atomic ratio range from 5 to 50 at a temperature ranging from 170.degree. to 225.degree. C. and recovering the desired product.

Superacidic catalysts for low temperature conversion of aqueous ethanol

There is provided with the present invention a new process for up-grading products resulting from the steam-cracking of hydrocarbons which comprises bringing the steam-cracking reaction products in contact with a catalyst comprising a mixture of from 2.5 to 7.5% wt of Cr.sub.2 O.sub.3, 5 to 17.5% wt of Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 and 75 to 85% wt of a Zn-ZSM-5 zeolite or a Zn-ZSM-5 zeolite/asbestos and recovering the desired products.

Catalysts for up-grading steam-cracking products

Ethylene, other light olefins and gasoline are produced from ethanol, or a mixture of ethanol/light alcohols or water over a pentasil-type zeolite into which zinc and manganese are preferably incorporated. The ethylene yield is linearly proportional to the ethanol content in the feed. No ethers and only insignificant amounts of light parafins are produced.

The invention relates to a process for the dry incorporation of manganese ions on the external reactive sites of Zn-ZSM-5 or Zn-ZSM-11 pentasil which comprises mixing a Zn-ZSM-5 or Zn-ZSM-11 zeolite with bentonite, impregnating the dry mixture with a minimum amount of a solution of a manganese salt thereby to form a malleable paste and extruding said paste under pressure whereby the manganese ions are affixed to the surface reactive sites of the treated zeolite and to the zeolite catalyst thus obtained.

Improved yield in light olefins and aromatics from methanol conversion on Zn and Mn loaded pentasil zeolite and composite pentasil zeolite-asbestos catalysts, the Zn content thereof ranging from 0.1 to 1.0% wt/wt and the Mn content thereof ranging from 0.2 to 5.0% wt/wt. The light olefins/aromatics ratio in the products varies with the Mn content in the catalyst, the cumulative light olefinic and aromatic production being kept constant at a high value (higher than 80% at 450.degree. C.).

Zeolite catalysts

A process for synthetizing mordenites having a high catalytic activity, in which the SiO.sub.2 :Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 molar ratio ranges from 16 to 40, said process comprising the step of mixing an organic base with H.sub.2 O and with at least a Na compound, an Al compound, and a Si compound, wherein said base is a diethyl-piperidinium compound and wherein the crystallization temperature of mordenite and the SP factor are selected within area A B C D of FIG. 1, the crystallization time being longer than two days.
