Ethylene propylene copolymer elastomers and ethylene propylene diene terpolymer elastomers are shown which, when cured, exhibit improved oil resistance and chemical aging properties at elevated temperatures and pressures. A previously polymerized liquid 1,2-polybutadiene is incorporated into the elastomer by chemical blending during the polymerization process. Such compositions are useful as electrical insulating materials for use under extreme environmental conditions, particularly in wire and cable constructions.

Synthetic elastomer with improved chemical, aging and oil resistance

An electrical cable for a submersible well pump has an internal fabric layer for providing additional hoop strength. The cable has a plurality of conductors. Each conductor is surrounded by an insulating layer that is permeable to gas. A woven fabric layer surrounds each insulating layer. An elastomeric jacket is extruded over and preferably bonded to each fabric layer. The jacket has flocked fibers to allow gas desorption while pulling the cable to the surface.

Electrical cable with fabric layer

A submersible pump installation for a subsea well has an electrical connection that is hydraulically made up with provisions to avoid contact with sea water. The submersible pump is suspended by a suspension head located in a tubular member at the subsea wellhead. An electrical insulator is movably carried in a passage extending through a wall of the tubular member. An electrical connector pin is carried in the insulator. A piston moves the insulator into contact with the suspension head, then the connector pin into engagement with the electrical connector located in the suspension head. A seal and dielectric fluid in the suspension head serve to prevent contamination by liquids in the subsea wellhead.

Subsea well submersible pump installation

An electrical cable has features that allow its use in wells containing oil, water and gas, for use with submersible pumps. The cable has a number of conductors. Each conductor is surrounded by an insulating layer of oil and brine resistant thermosetting material. The insulating layer is permeable to gas. A polymeric jacket is extruded around all of the conductors, separating the conductors from each other and in direct physical contact with the insulating layers. Perforations are placed in the jacket at regular intervals. During rapid depressurization, gas absorbed in the insulating layers is able to flow freely from the cable by means of the perforations in the jacket. The jacket has sufficient strength to prevent rupturing of the insulating layers during depressurization.

Braidless perforated cable

An elastomeric composition of the type used as a jacketing material for electrical wires and cables is shown having improved chemical, water and heat resistance. An ethylene/acrylic elastomer comprising a terpolymer of ethylene, methyl acrylate, and a cure site monomer is used as the base polymer and has blended therewith a polybutadiene. The polybutadiene has greater than 50% 1,2 polymerized units and has a molecular weight between about 1,500 and 25,000 grams/mole.

Elastomeric compositions with improved chemical, water and heat

A cable splice joining insulated conductor ends wherein the conductors are coated with lead, lead-tin alloy or tin, said splice comprising a metallic sleeve member joining the conductor ends, a first layer of adhesive over the sleeve member and any exposed conductor areas, a layer of foil formed of lead or lead-tin alloy covering the first adhesive layer, a second adhesive layer covering said layer of foil and extending over the exposed insulation; a helically-wrapped insulation layer formed of a thermosetting polymer, an over-lapped layer of fabric surrounding the insulation layer, a helically-wrapped heat-shrinkable type layer surrounding the fabric layer, and a heat-shrinkable sleeve surrounding the splice area, and a method for forming said cable splice, for providing cable splices which resist depressurization failure and corrosion of conductors when employed in high pressure gassy oil wells containing corrosive well fluids.

An improved process for preparing friction clutch facings comprising continuous fiber strand or filament wherein the continuous strand is extrusion-coated with an uncured or partially-cured friction resin composition, wound into a preform, then thermally cured under pressure.

A cable splice comprising a metallic sleeve member joining the conductor ends, a layer of adhesive over the sleeve member adjacent insulation and lead sheath, a helically-wrapped insulation layer formed of a thermosetting polymer, an overlapped layer of fabric surrounding the insulation layer, an overlapped layer of lead foil surrounding the fabric layer and extending over the lead sheath a helically-wrapped heat-shrinkable tape layer surrounding the lead foil layer and a heat-shrinkable sleeve surrounding the splice area which resists invasion by corrosive well fluids and consequent corrosive in high pressure gassy wells, and a method for forming said cable splice.

Splice for lead-sheathed cable

A cable splice comprising a metallic sleeve member joining the conductor ends, a layer of adhesive over the sleeve member and adjacent insulation, a helically-wrapped insulation layer formed of a thermosetting polymer, an overlapped layer of fabric surrounding the insulation layer, a helically-wrapped heat-shrinkable tape layer surrounding the fabric layer and a heat-shrinkable sleeve surrounding the splice area which resists depressurization failure when employed in high pressure gassy oil wells, and a method for forming said cable splice.

Cable splice

A rotary sliding vane compressor having means for biasing the vanes outwardly. Such means include a resilient element located in the lower portion of the vane slot and engaging a convexly shaped edge on the vane. An improved wear surface on the resilient element at the area of contact with the vane slot provides enhanced service life. The flexing action of the resilient member ensures that the vanes will be moved outwardly during the expansion phase of rotor travel.
