A convection cooled chassis providing conduction cooling to components within includes a backplane card that interfaces with an interconnect assembly, and one or more VPX backplane cards, each with a plurality of component interfaces and a backplane card interface to engage the backplane card. Static elements that are not subject to redesign are disposed on the backplane card, so they do not need to be reorganized when contacts, pins, and component interfaces are altered. Different VPX backplane cards are swappable with the backplane card. The component interfaces and backplane card interface are disposed on opposing sides of the VPX backplane card.

A secure deterministic fabric includes switches that segregate data traffic requiring disparate levels of authentication or having different safety levels. Data may be segregated physically, utilizing different hardware; or virtually, by allocating certain assets such as memory blocks exclusively for certain levels of authentication. The secure deterministic fabric may include elements for safety monitoring and multi-level security monitoring.

The modular avionics system may include one or more centralized processing line-replaceable units (LRUs), the centralized processing LRUs including at least one multi-core computer processor, one or more multi-function display (MFD) units configured to receive imagery data from the centralized processing LRUs and display the imagery data on a display device, one or more control display units (CDUs) configured to receive imagery data from the centralized processing LRUs and display the imagery data on a display device, the MFD units and the CDUs including one or more user input devices, the MFD units and the CDUs including at least one logic module, the CDUs and the MFD units configured to transmit user input data from the user input devices to the centralized processing LRUs, the centralized processing LRUs constructed from a plurality of component slices, wherein a first component slice and at least a second component slice are reversibly couplable.
