A device for testing for a wiring fault condition is disclosed. The device includes an electrical connector, a first signal generator, a second signal generator, and a user interface. The electrical connector includes first and second contacts that are configured to establish an electrical connection to the wiring. The first signal generator is in signal communication with the electrical connector, and is configured to generate a signal on the wiring and to receive a reflected signal therefrom. The second signal generator is in signal communication with the electrical connector, and is configured to generate a radio frequency signal on the wiring. The user interface is in signal communication with either or both of the first and second signal generators.

Device and method for testing for a wiring fault condition

An arc fault circuit breaker assembled such that electrical interconnections, i.e., electrical connections between compartments, are made without disassembling any previously assembled compartment. The arc fault circuit breaker comprises housings having compartments within. Electrically connected components having interconnecting components, i.e., components which provide electrical interconnections between compartments, are disposed within the compartments. The housings are assembled together to enclose the compartments. Interconnecting components within an enclosed compartment extend through openings in the housings to provide electrical interconnections to the next compartment to be assembled. Therefore, no disassembly of the enclosed compartment is necessary to make the interconnections.

Arc fault circuit breaker

A self powered parallel bar current sensor for generating a signal which accurately represents current in a power line includes a power coil core having an opening extending therethrough, and a current sensing element including two substantially parallel sensing bars and a sensing coil. The sensing coil is disposed between the sensing bars, and the sensing bars and sensing coil extend through the power coil core opening. A reference coil may also be situated between the sensing bars. The current sensor is connected in series in the power line.

An exemplary embodiment of the invention is directed to a method for performing quality function deployment for a system having a plurality of levels. The method includes obtaining a plurality of first level critical to quality parameters and obtaining a plurality of first level key control parameters. A first level quality matrix is generated identifying an effect at least one first level key control parameter has on at least one first level critical to quality parameter. The first level key control parameters are arranged into a first group and a second group. A second level quality matrix is generated for the first group. The second level quality matrix includes second level critical to quality parameters corresponding to the first group of first level key control parameters and a second level key control parameter. The second level quality matrix identifies an effect said second level key control parameter has on at least one second level critical to quality parameter.

Single pole arc fault circuit breaker

An arc fault circuit breaker comprising an electronics portion that is interconnected with a mechanical portion is presented. A plunger arm affixed to the end of a plunger shaft of a solenoid connects the electronics portion with the mechanical portion. A protrusion is provided to assist in assembly of the circuit breaker. The protrusion depends from the plunger arm. An assembler applies a light downward force with one finger on the protrusion and the plunger arm tends to assume a position at right angles to the surface of the printed circuit board. When the electronics portion is connected with the mechanical portion, the plunger arm is properly aligned and it enters into the slot. If the electronics portion is slightly offset, the assembler's finger on the protrusion can move the plunger arm slightly to align the plunger arm. Thus, the invention enables an assembler to hold and guide the plunger arm into the correct position with one hand while assembling the circuit breaker.

ARC fault circuit breaker

An arc fault circuit breaker (,) conducting an electric current to a protected load is presented. The circuit breaker (,) has a first (mechanical) compartment (,) and a second (electrical) compartment (,). A bimetal resistor (,) is disposed within the first compartment (,) and conducts the current therethrough. The bimetal resistor (,) has a stud (,) extending into the second compartment (,). A single sense line (,) is electrically connected to the bimetal resistor (,) and routed into the second compartment (,). The sense line (,) and said stud (,) conduct a voltage signal indicative of arcing of the current. A circuit board (,) is disposed within the second compartment (,) and is connected to the sense line (,) and stud (,) within the second compartment (,) to process the voltage signal. The circuit board (,) has a first conductive path (,) electrically connected to the stud (,), and a second conductive path (,) electrically connected to the sense line (,). The first and second conductive paths (,) run substantially parallel and proximate to each other such that electromagnetic interference of the voltage signal is substantially reduced.

A circuit breaker including a housing having a window, a line terminal and a load terminal, and a circuit trip assembly. The circuit trip assembly includes a rotatable cradle, a moveable armature latch and a pivotable trip support including a trip indicator. Upon the occurrence of a tripping condition in the circuit breaker, the trip indicator moves from a first position where it is not visible through the window to a second position where it is visible through the window.

A visible trip indication arrangement for a circuit breaker. The visible trip indication arrangement comprises a viewing window forming a part of the breaker housing, the viewing window including indicia thereon that is readily or enhancedly visible when the circuit breaker has been tripped and essentially not visible when the circuit breaker is operating by way of a trip indicator that moves under and aligns with the viewing window when the circuit breaker is in the tripped condition. The trip indicator having a brightly colored surface, causes the indicia on the viewing window to be readily visible by way of the reflected light off a surface thereof.

A collapsible contact arm drive link arrangement for a circuit breaker operating mechanism has a pair of upper links for receiving the circuit breaker operating mechanism and a lower link for receiving a circuit breaker contact arm carrier at one end. Intermediate the upper links and the lower link, a scissors link, which is connected with the upper links and lower link, allows the lower link to move from a first position (e.g., closed) to a second position (e.g., tripped). The movement occurs upon the application of a force on the lower link in excess of a predetermined force that is applied to the upper links.

A molded case circuit breaker base is configured to receive pole modules that include the circuit breaker components for mutipole operation. The base is configured to receive the bottom edges of the module enclosures in press-fit relation. A complementary molded case circuit breaker cover attaches to the top of the modules to complete the multipole circuit breaker enclosure.

A self-powered axial current sensor for generating a signal which accurately represents current in a power line includes, in one embodiment, a housing having a bus bar opening of substantially rectangular shape extending longitudinally therethrough. The housing also includes current sensor core retaining walls which define a current sensor region, and a cover base wall which defines, with one of the retaining walls, a power core region. A current sensor core and coil are located in the current sensor region and are positioned proximate the bus bar opening. The current sensor core and coil also are substantially symmetrical with respect to the center axis of the bus bar opening. The current sensor further includes a power core and a power coil located in the power core region and positioned substantially symmetrically with respect to the center axis of bus bar opening.

Self-powered axial current sensor

An air circuit breaker movable contact arm assembly is presented. The movable contact arm assembly comprises an electrically-conductive support having at least one slot formed therein to receive a first end of the movable contact arm. The movable contact arm comprises first and second sides which face side walls of the electrically-conductive support within the slot. A spring washer is disposed at the first end of the movable contact arm and loads the second side of the movable contact arm against one side wall of the electrically-conductive support to form a variably conducting joint therebetween. By using a spring washer, the movable contact arm pivotally engages the other facing side wall of the electrically-conductive support to provide a variable pivot point. The variable pivot point of the contact arm assembly permits an additional degree of freedom allowing the movable contact arm to rotate about a separate, variable pivot point.
