A counting element is dimensioned for sliding engagement along an outside surface of an elongated rod of an educational apparatus. The counting element includes an element body extending between first and second end surfaces. The element body includes an outer wall a plurality of inner walls disposed radially inward of the outer wall. The inner walls are operatively connected to the outer wall adjacent the first end surface and extend to a free end disposed toward the second end surface. The inner walls define a passage dimensioned to receive the elongated rod. The free ends of the inner wall portions are radially deflectable and function as biasing elements operative to generate frictional resistance to sliding movement of the counting element along the outside surface of the elongated rod. An educational apparatus includes a frame, a plurality of elongated rods and a plurality of counting elements. Methods are also included.

A rotary knife comprising, an annular blade having a central axis, a blade supporting head assembly supporting the blade for rotation about the axis, a manually grippable handle assembly connected to the head assembly, and a flex shaft drive transmission for driving the blade about the axis. The handle assembly comprises a core, a hand grip surrounding the core, and a connector unit that secures the hand grip to the core. The core has a first end region rigidly fixed with respect to the head assembly and a second end region spaced from the head assembly. The core defines a drive transmission guiding channel leading toward the blade. The hand grip has a first end region proximal the blade support assembly and a second end region proximal the second core end region. The connector detachably secures the hand grip in fixed relationship with the core. The connector engages the second end regions and is detachable for enabling hand grip removal and replacement.

A rotary knife comprising, an annular blade having a central axis, a blade supporting head assembly supporting the blade for rotation about the axis, a manually grippable handle assembly connected to the head assembly, and a flex shaft drive transmission for driving the blade about the axis. The handle assembly comprises a core, a hand grip surrounding the core, and a connector unit that secures the hand grip to the core. A pneumatic hand tool comprises a tool body communicable with an operating air source, a pneumatic motor supported by the tool body, and a control valve for controlling air flow to the motor. When the control valve is in an open condition the motor is operated to drive the tool. When the valve is in a closed condition it cuts off the supply of operating air to the motor. In the closed condition the control valve communicates with air at ambient atmospheric pressure so that source air leaking from the control valve is vented away from the motor to preclude unintended motor operation.

A hand-held power-operated blade-actuating or other work member actuating device, especially useful as shears for processing comestible products such as fowl. A servo mechanism and linkage connected with a movable blade and a finger control causes controlled powered movement of the blade in coordination with the finger control. A fixed blade and a pivoted blade are insertable and removable as a unit from a hand-held frame in which the fixed blade is restrained against rotation relative to the frame. The blades and frame are constructed so the blades are insertable or removable only when closed. In a preferred embodiment the fixed blade is retained in part by two load bearing pins extending from the frame and located substantially diametrically opposite each other relative to the pivot axis of the movable blade.

A servo valve comprises a valve body, an elongated chamber defined by the body and two oppositely facing annular pistons independently movable longitudinally within the body. Each piston has an inner annular first valve seat and an outer annular first obturating surface. A reciprocable valve stem is surrounded by the pistons. Two oppositely facing spaced annular second obturating surfaces are carried by the valve stem a fixed distance apart, with the pistons located between the two second obturating surfaces and reciprocable on the valve stem. Each of the second obturating surfaces is arranged to cooperate with one of the inner annular first valve seats to control fluid flow along the valve stem from a fluid inlet intermediate the pistons. Two annular second valve seats are fixed in the valve body. Each of the annular second valve seats is located to contact the outer annular first obturating surface of one of the two pistons to limit the longitudinal movement of the pistons away from each other and to control fluid flow past the outer annular first obturating surfaces. The pistons each include a surface for transmitting force to the piston in a direction away from the other piston.

Hand held power operated shears

Hand held fluid operated shears comprises first and second blades. The blades are pivotally connected for movement of one relative to the other about an axis. The shears include a thumb-receiving handle and a finger-receiving handle. One of the handles is supported for pivoting about the axis independently of both blades. The other handle is fixed relative to the first blade. A fluid actuator is coupled between the fixed handle and the second blade. A fluid operated servo mechanism is controlled by the second blade and the pivoted handle to control operation of the fluid actuator to move the second blade relative to the first blade in coordination with the movement of the pivoted handle. The rate of movement of the second blade decreases relative to the rate of movement of the pivoted handle as the second blade moves from an open position at an acute angle relative to the first blade to a closed position where it overlies the first blade.

A glove having patterned polyurethane coating adhered to outer surface. The coating is about 1/32 inch high and about 1/16 inch wide to give the glove slip-resistant and gripping properties. The coating is formed from (a) a pre-mixed thixotropic component, a non-thixotropic component in a 2.5 to 1 ratio, and an accelerator, and (b) a cross-linking agent. The method of manufacturing the glove involves applying a mixture of (a) and (b) as a strip to the glove, allowing the strip of coating to wet the fibers and then curing at a low temperature for a relatively short period of time.

A wheel chair (A) has at least one wheel (50) rotatably mounted to a side frame (14). A combined wheel lock and hill holder assembly (D) is mounted adjacent an outermost peripheral surface of a tire (60) mounted to a rim (58) of the wheel. The wheel lock and hill holder assembly has a linkage including a handle member (74) and a brake lever (80) both pivotally connected to the base. A link (84) is pivotally connected in between. Shifting the handle member causes the brake lever to move an axle (90) toward and away from the peripheral surface of the tire. A cam surface (94) having a plurality of projections (102) is rotatably mounted on the axle. In a first mode (FIG. 3), the wheel is free rolling. In a second mode (FIG. 4), the cam surface is moved by the handle into firm friction engagement with the tire peripheral surface to lock the wheel against any rotation. In a third mode (FIG. 5), the cam surface is spring biased into engagement with the wheel such that rotation in one direction is permitted but rotation in the opposite direction causes increasing engagement between the cam and the tire peripheral surface locking the wheel against rotation in that direction.

A collar or body portion (40) has an inner surface (42) that defines a circular bore (44) therethrough. A cam surface (46) is recessed into the collar portion from the circular bore. The collar is disposed with a tubular member (22) extending through the circular bore with a spring biased detent (30) engaging the cam surface. A series of upper plateaus or segments (60) and lower plateaus or segments (62) hold the detent against the cam surface as the collar is rotated. A handle portion (64) facilitates manually rotating the collar to depress or release the spring biased detent.
