The present invention relates to a data-center cable having good attenuation performance both at room temperature and during temperature cycling, as well as good resistance to compression.

Data-center cable

The present invention relates to flame-retardant fiber optic cables. The fiber optic cables include reinforcing materials that generate low smoke levels and exhibit improved performance during burn testing. The fiber optic cables are capable of meeting burn testing requirements without employing expensive, high-performance cable jacketing and buffering compounds.

Low-smoke and flame-retardant fiber optic cables

A buffer tube and fiber optic cable having an optimized ribbon stack packaging configuration, minimized attenuation problems and a reduced overall cable diameter and weight is provided. Specifically, a packaging configuration utilizing parallel lying and perpendicular lying fiber ribbons is configured into a ribbon stack having a square shape or cross-type configuration. Cushions may be placed between the high-fiber count ribbon stack and buffer tube walls thus enabling the ribbon stack to center itself within the tube thereby decreasing attenuation problems.

A process for marking an outer jacket of an oscillating lay cable to indicate the locations of switchbacks thereunder. The process includes the step of providing detectable markings on an unjacketed cable core in predetermined position relative to the switchback. The process further includes the steps of sensing the detectable markings with a sensor prior to extruding an outer jacket over the cable core, predicting the location of the sensed markings on the cable core after a cable jacket has been extruded, and providing a marking on the cable jacket at a predetermined position relative to the predicted location of the sensed marking.
