A crank assembly for displacing a load includes a motor and a displacement arm assembly. The motor includes a rotatable output shaft that defines a rotation axis. The displacement arm assembly includes a swingable crank arm and a support roller bearing. The swingable crank arm is coupled to the output shaft to swing about the rotation axis when the output shaft rotates. The swingable crank arm defines a pivot end adjacent the rotation axis and an opposite displacement end. The support roller bearing is rotatably supported on the swingable crank arm proximate the displacement end. The support roller bearing is configured to engage the load. The support roller bearing defines a bearing axis, which is substantially parallel to and offset from the rotation axis.

A motor is cooled with a coolant. The motor includes a rotor rotatable about an axis, a stator including a stator core and windings wound about the stator core, a housing enclosing at least a portion of the stator, and a resiliently deflectable spray ring extending circumferentially relative to the axis. The spray ring defines at least one orifice configured to direct coolant on the stator. The spray ring presents first and second arcuately spaced apart ends defining a gap therebetween.

A pump motor assembly operable to provide driving power to a fluid pump includes a rotor, a stator, a case housing the rotor and the stator, and a control assembly mounted to the case and operable to control motor operation. The control assembly includes an information display and a cover overlying the display, with a window section in general alignment with the display. The control assembly also includes a filler plate underlying the window section to prevent any air gap along an underside thereof, allowing the display to be visible while reducing the risk of condensation buildup. The control assembly further includes a low voltage housing with the display disposed in a first compartment defined thereby, and a high voltage housing with a high voltage component disposed in a second compartment defined thereby. The low voltage housing includes a thermal and fluid barrier that substantially fluidly separates the first and second compartments to reduce the risk of liquid electrical conduction therebetween and to reduce heat transfer into the low voltage housing.

Pump motor control assembly

A cooling system is provided for an electric motor having control circuitry and including a motor housing surrounding the motor. The motor drives at least one radial fan at one end thereof for directing airflow through the motor housing across the motor. A fan housing encloses the cooling fan and defines a diverter chamber radially outboard of the fan that is sized to divert a portion of the airflow away from the electric motor. A control box contains the control circuitry and includes a base having a heat sink for contacting the control circuitry. The base defines a plenum in communication with the diverter chamber and a channel in communication with the plenum and the heat sink to direct the diverted airflow across the heat sink.

Cooling system for a motor and associated electronics

A fluid deflecting baffle is provided for use on an electric motor to be used in an environment where liquid may otherwise pass through a vent opening in an endshield of the motor. The baffle is secureable to the endshield and extends in a partial covering relationship with the vent opening. The baffle includes a vent passage therethrough and has at least one liquid flow obstructing louver that extends across the vent opening to deflect liquid away from the vent passage while allowing venting air to flow through the vent passage. The louver includes a generally flat liquid deflection surface that is disposed at an oblique angle relative to the axis of the motor and at least partially faces a venting direction of incoming air and fluid.

An electric machine includes a housing, an end shield, a stator, and a rotor assembly. The end shield can define at least one pin, and the stator can define at least one track. The stator can be positioned on the end shield such that the pin is received within the track. The stator can be captured between the end shield and a stop within the housing. The rotor assembly can include an adaptor sleeve and/or a bearing with a plurality of steel rolling elements. End caps can be coupled to the stator, and power and control electronics can be integrated within the housing.

Electric machines and methods related to assembling electric machines

Methods and apparatus are disclosed for assembling an electric machine. The electric machine includes a plurality of stator segment assemblies that are mounted inside of a housing of an electric machine. The stator segment assemblies are positioned around an outer surface of an assembly fixture. The stator segment assemblies are held to the assembly fixture using a magnetic field that is generated by the assembly fixture. The housing is press fit or hot dropped over the stator segment assemblies. If the housing is hot dropped, the housing is heated to cause the housing to expand. The housing is positioned over the stator segment assemblies while the housing is hot. The housing cools and contracts around the stator segment assemblies to form an interference fit with the stator segment assemblies and then the stator and the housing are removed from the assembly fixture.

Method and apparatus for constructing a segmented stator

An improved rotor position sensing system for detecting the angular position of the rotor of a rotating machine with respect the stator of the machine that includes a shutter that is affixed to the rotor, a sensor board holder that is positioned within the stator such that it has known orientation with respect to the stator, and a sensor board including rotor position sensors that is positioned within the sensor board holder such that it has a known orientation with respect to the holder.

Rotor position sensing system

A dynamoelectric machine of the present invention includes a stator, a rotor journaled with respect to the stator, and a rotor shaft having a longitudinal axis extending axially from said rotor. An auxiliary winding and a starting switch operable to de-energize said auxiliary winding upon the motor obtaining a predetermined speed is provided. A centrifugal actuator is mounted on the rotor shaft to actuate the starter switch to de-energize the starter windings when the rotor obtains a predetermined speed. The rotor shaft has a single wide groove formed thereon and the actuator has a sleeve which is journaled on the rotor shaft. The sleeve has an inwardly directed projection sized and shaped to fit in the shaft groove. The sleeve projection and shaft groove interact such that the actuator sleeve cannot be moved relative to the shaft and the switch without a great deal of force. Shims, in the form of brake liners, are provided to place an actuator face of the actuator within a predetermined distance of the switch. This construction provides a proper running clearance between the face and the switch which is very difficult to change.

A counterweighted rotor for use in a compressor assembly, the counterweighted rotor including a core assembly, an end ring defining a first end of the rotor, an end ring defining a second end of the rotor, each end ring having a plurality of coining lugs integrally cast thereto, the coining lugs sized for securing weights to the rotor, a plurality of counterweights for balancing the rotor, each of the counterweights including a body formed from powdered metal, the body having an aperture on its radial edge for engaging a coining lug, and a lip integrally formed on the counterweight porprotioned for contour fitting with the inside diameter of the rotor end ring. A method of forming counterbalanced rotor employs forming weights from powdered metal, the counterweights attaching to the rotor by coining over a coining lug of the rotor end ring through an aperature in the counterweight body.

Counterweighted rotor

A test weight for use with a counterbalanced motor for a compressor assembly, for example, including a body having an opening formed in it and sized to engage the outer diameter of an external eccentrically positioned ball bearing of the counterbalanced motor. A plurality of cantilevered spring fingers are integrally formed with the body along the opening in the test weight for spring gripping the external ball bearing. A plurality of centering pads formed on the fingers hold the center of mass of the test weight close to the center of mass of the ball bearing. In the preferred embodiment, stop tabs project from the centering pads to provide a positive stop upon contact with the outer race of the ball bearing. A method of testing a motor employs the test weight which is attached to the ball bearing to reproduce the application load requirements for the motor, and permits testing of the motor independently of the application.
