The present invention provides for improved interbody cage devices using surgical methods for delivering such cage into the disc space. The present invention has at least one advantage of providing practical and advantageous methods for accessing the spinal disc space to insert and deploy interbody cage devices in various manners that overcome the disadvantages of posterior, trans-sacro-iliac, anterior, oblique and lateral approaches thereto and minimize surgical trauma to the patient. Thus, the present invention provides for the unmet need for improved interbody cage devices which may be inserted to a disc space for patients exhibiting a wide range of anatomies.

Interbody cage device and method for performing spinal surgical procedures

A spinal interbody fusion device for use in a plurality of surgical approaches includes a cage, a top end, a bottom end, and at least a first side representing the width of the cage and at least a second side representing a length of the cage. The cage includes fixation holes and inserter holes, with each fixation hole being configured for accepting a screw or anchor and each inserter hole being accessible for one or more surgical approaches for performing a spinal fusion. Also included are methods for selecting a size of an intervertebral implant and methods of surgically approaching a spine of a patient for spinal surgical procedures.

The present invention provides for improved surgical methods for securely fix the L5 vertebrae to the S1 sacrum within the disc space for patients exhibiting a wide range of anatomies. In some embodiments, a cervical plate may include an elongate plate which bridges, during use, substantially adjacent vertebrae by anchoring the plate to the vertebrae. The cervical plate may include a plurality of openings extending through the elongate plate. The cervical plate may include plurality of bone fasteners. The bone fasteners may include a head and a shaft. The shaft may be positionable, during use, in the opening such that the shaft engages, during use, at least one of the vertebrae such that the bone fasteners couple the elongate plate to the vertebrae. The cervical plate may include a securing mechanism. The securing mechanism may, when activated, inhibit removal of at least one of the bone fasteners and inhibit movement of at least the shaft of the bone fastener in a lateral direction, while allowing movement of at least the shaft of the bone fastener along a substantially sagittal plane.

This disclosure describes devices and methods for performing spinal surgical procedures. In some embodiments, a method may include positioning at least a portion of at least one surgical instrument in at least one naturally occurring orifice of a human by a user. In some embodiments, a method may include accessing an interior space of the human using at least one of the surgical instruments. The method may include performing at least a portion of a spinal surgical procedure using at least one of the surgical instruments positioned in at least one of the naturally occurring orifices of the human. The method may include removing at least one of the surgical instruments from at least one of the naturally occurring orifices upon completion of at least a portion of the spinal surgical procedure.

In one embodiment of the present invention a mobile bearing knee prosthesis may include an interface (e.g., a spherical radius interface) comprised of a concave superior surface on a tibial tray and a convex inferior surface on a tibial insert. In another embodiment of the present invention a mobile bearing knee prosthesis may include an interface (e.g., a spherical radius interface) comprised of a convex superior surface on a tibial tray and a concave inferior surface on a tibial insert. A composite bearing insert for a total knee joint or a unicondylar knee joint which minimizes or eliminates the production of wear debris resulting from relative motion at the interface between the endoskeleton and a tibial tray of a knee joint prosthesis. The composite bearing insert includes an endoskeleton and a polymer portion which is preferably molded into and locked within the endoskeleton. The endoskeleton is configured to be locked to a tibial component, such as a tibial tray or keel. The modularity of the assembly facilitates the interchangeability of various composite bearing inserts with various tibial components.
