A ceramic ink is transferred to complex ceramic articles by a modified transfer process which allows 20% or greater of the surface area of the ceramic article to be printed. To adhere the ceramic ink to the ceramic articles, the surface of the ceramic article is sprayed with a thin layer of oil. After transfer of the ink design, residual poly vinyl alcohol is washed off of the article while the printed image is held in place by the insoluble precoated oil. The finished ceramic article has a 100% ceramic finish that is very durable.

A rigid tile has a flexible interlocking edge configuration and a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer. To increase the ease of installation, an inert powder is dusted on the periphery of the adhesive layer.

Variegated color and optimally textured effects are produced on substantially non-wicking surfaces by applying gel particles of at least two different colors formed from at least two alginate compositions, each containing a different color from the other and each having been mixed with a second composition containing a gelling agent to produce the particles.

An embossing plate having a geometric shape or decorative pattern projecting on its face is used with a printed sublimation transfer paper to impress the pattern in the fabric surface of a fabric-covered substrate.

A fabric backing is provided with a plurality of parallel yarns which are adhesively bound to one surface of the fabric backing. The resultant product is then needled with conventional needling apparatus to pierce both the fabric backing and the yarns to provide a plurality of apertures in the fabric backing and the yarn whereby the drape of the fabric is increased and the yarn design is softened.

A base structure of a fibrous material has on one face thereof a plurality of acoustical perforations. Positioned over this perforated face is a vinyl layer having a plurality of apertures therein, the apertures of the vinyl being in number much greater than the number of perforations in the base structure. The apertures in the vinyl sheet not all being in alignment with the perforations of the base structure, but the perforations of the base structure having a substantial number thereof in alignment with the apertures in the vinyl structure whereby an acoustical sound absorbing structure is formed.

The invention is directed to a wallboard structure which is first composed of a base sheet having a dense upper surface region. Over the dense surface region there is placed a vinyl sheet. Perforations are placed through the vinyl sheet and through the dense surface region and partly into the base region so there is formed an acoustical vinyl faced wallboard.

A process and apparatus for uniformly compressing pre-crimped electric conductive metal foil ribbon to achieve a high density of crimps per unit length and an increased ratio of crimp depth-to-pitch between successive crimps is disclosed. The apparatus forms an elongated passageway adapted to slidably receive a crimped foil ribbon therein. The bottom portion of a pre-crimped foil ribbon positioned in the passageway is releasably held in place. A probe is inserted through a slot in the cover plate on the apparatus into a crimp in the ribbon and the probe and crimps are moved toward the portion of the ribbon being held in place to compress the moved crimped portion. Release of holding pressure on the bottom portion of the foil ribbon allows the compressed foil to be advanced and the process is repeated until the desired length of compressed crimped foil is produced.

An electric air stream heater adapted to operate directly on 120 volts with a wattage output of less than 500 watts without the need for any special control module, comprising, a cylindrical heating assembly having at least two spaced apart, parallel electrically connected lengths of crimped metallic foil provided with electrical power connections and secured to an insulating backing and rolled around an insulating core. Ceramic pins and a thermostatic control element which extend radially through the heating unit provide respectively, support means to prevent sagging of the heating elements in use and a means for detecting heat build-up across a large cross sectional area of the heater while creating a minimum of air flow resistance.

The invention herein is directed to a method of providing a ceiling board with a fabric facing. The fabric facing is molded to the irregular shape of the ceiling board so that there is no wrinkling or gathering of the fabric as it is shaped to the configuration of the ceiling board. The lack of wrinkling and gathering is secured without the use of a laborious hand-cutting operation.

There is provided a roll-on type ceiling material that has a monolithic appearance free from batten strips, rosettes, or plastic inserts. A base surface is applied and this is covered by a flexible, decorative sheet to form the ceiling covering.
