An oral composition can contain the primary composition in a foodstuff, food supplement, cosmetic preparation or a pharmaceutical preparation.

The present invention relates to a method to extract long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids from sources using emulsifiers dispersed in oil as carrier and to the oils obtainable from such a method. It also relates to the use of emulsifier in oil for improving the extraction of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids in the form of phospholipids and, in a further aspect, to an oil composition comprising long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids in an amount up to 4% and phospholipids in an amount up to 15% and at least one emulsifier.

An aqueous acid solution is mixed with an organic water-immiscible solvent which contains saponified and unsaponified compounds, which are obtained by saponifying a wax with an alkali in the solvent, to obtain an acidified mixture having a pH of from 2.5 to 4. The mixture is allowed to separate into an aqueous phase and an organic phase, and then the aqueous phase is separated from the organic phase. An alkaline earth metal hydroxide is mixed with the organic phase to form salts of fatty acids, and in cases when an insoluble material is formed from the organic phase, the insoluble material is separated from the organic phase. Unsaponified compounds are obtained from the organic phase by evaporating the organic phase. Salts of fatty acids may be removed from the compounds.

A double sulfate salt of 1-desoxy-(5-hydroxytryptamino)-D-fructose (DFS) and 1-methylhydantoin-2-imide (creatinine) is prepared by adding creatinine to an aqueous solution of DFS containing sulfuric acid having a pH of approximately 3. The double salt may be isolated by crystallizing it in the presence of a water-miscible solvent such as ethanol. A process for the preparation of cafestol from kahweol is also disclosed.
