A control processor controls an outdoor coil defrost cycle on a reversible heat pump by continuously monitoring the difference between the outdoor coil temperature and the outdoor air temperature. When specified preconditions are met and this difference exceeds a target value, the defrost cycle is initiated.

Method and system for demand defrost control on reversible heat pumps

An electric element mounting system including a housing and at least one heating element. Each element includes a frame having a longitudinal axis and a distal end, a heating coil and a wire terminal for electrically and mechanically coupling the element to the front panel. A substantially planar mounting bracket is located within the housing; the bracket including at least one aperture. The bracket is located within the housing and placed in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the frame so that the distal end is placed through the aperture to mount the element upon the bracket.

Multiple electric element mounting system

A method and apparatus for retaining an insulation blanket in its installed position on the inner surface of a fan coil door in the vicinity of a negative pressure created by a blower assembly within the fan coil. A bracket is secured to the lower edge of the blower assembly access door, the bracket having an upwardly extending flange that overlaps a significant portion of the insulation blanket to hold it in its installed position. A pair of obliquely extending tabs engage a shelf surface on the lower edge of the door to secure the bracket to the door without the use of fasteners.

Door insulation retainer

A method and apparatus for controlling supplemental heat added to the air stream passing from an indoor coil to an air supply duct of a heat pump system, the heat pump system being of the type that includes an indoor thermostat having a first set point for initiating heat supplied by the indoor coil and a second set point for initiating additional heat supplied by supplemental heating means. The supplemental heating elements include an adjustable output heating element for heating air passing from the indoor coil to the air supply duct. The coil discharge temperature of the air stream heated by the indoor coil is determined at a position between the indoor coil and the supplemental heating means. The adjustable output heating element is selectively energized in response to the coil discharge temperature, independent of the second set point of the indoor thermostat.

Method and apparatus for controlling supplemental heat in a heat pump

A condensate pan is adapted for use in either a left or right horizontal fan coil installation, and includes left and right mirror image sides interconnected with a central section having on its lower surface a riser near one end, and each of the halves having a drainage opening on the other end, such that when the evaporator coil is placed in the condensate pan, the pan is tipped about the riser to lower one side and raise the other, depending on whether its a left or right horizontal installation, such that drainage occurs from the lower side drainage opening. The drainage opening is so located with respect to the floor of the pan that, when a drain pipe is threadably connected thereto, its lower inner surface is disposed vertically below the pan floor to thereby enhance its drainage characteristics.

Condensate pan with minimal residual condensate

A combination expansion and flow distributor unit suitable for use in a heat pump for homogeneously mixing liquid and vapor phase refrigerant throttled through the expander section and uniformly distributing the mixture into the individual flow circuits of a downstream heat exchanger.
