A header adjusting system for a hillside combine harvester includes a master hydraulic cylinder assembly and a slave hydraulic cylinder assembly. The master hydraulic cylinder assembly is slaved to movement of the wheels relative to the combine frame. The slave hydraulic cylinder assembly is slaved to extension and retraction of the master hydraulic cylinder assembly. The slave hydraulic cylinder assembly causes the header to pivot about the longitudinal axis of the harvester in order to follow the contour of the ground. A header trimming mechanism is also provided to enable direct operator control of some of the pivoting action of the header about the longitudinal axis. A leveling system for a hillside combine harvester includes a cable and a biased, moveable reference pulley associated therewith. Movement of the reference pulley actuates a switch which selectively imparts fluid flow to hydraulic leveling cylinders to re-establish a reference position of such pulley, and correspondingly a reference orientation of such cylinders. A chain drive system for a hillside combine or other vehicle includes a first arm and second arm, at least one of which is mounted for pivotal movement relative to the other. An interconnecting chain drive sprocket assembly is independently rotatably supported relative to the pivot connection between the first and second arms. Such assembly includes interconnected chain drive sprockets for transferring chain drive from one arm to the other through the pivot connection.

Combine harvester leveling system, combine harvester header adjusting

A preferred mineral jig apparatus includes a jig tank having a laterally oriented piston and cylinder assembly mounted therewithin. The piston and cylinder assembly defines two compartments, with reciprocating motion of the piston causing pulsating action of the water within the two respective compartments. The piston and cylinder assembly includes a cylinder, a piston assembly and a piston rod connected to the piston assembly. The piston rod includes an internal channel to convey make-up water to the tank from an external water source. The piston rod is supported for lateral reciprocating motion by at least two downwardly hanging leaf springs. The piston assembly comprises a pair of separated piston plates oriented transversely relative to the cylinder. The separated piston plates defining a space therebetween as well as a separation distance between the piston plates. The piston rod is connected to one of the piston plates. The internal piston rod channel communicates with the space between the piston plates to expel make-up water thereto. The cylinder has a length which is approximately equal to the separation distance between the piston plates. One of the piston plates is moved into the cylinder upon a given piston stroke, while the other of the piston plates is moved away from the cylinder upon the given piston stroke. The mineral jig apparatus further comprises a drive mechanism for imparting reciprocating action to the piston.

Mineral jig apparatus

A floating dredge and hydraulic dredging apparatus for mining underwater mineral bearing deposits is disclosed. The dredge includes an overburden excavator and an ore excavator mounted to a pontoon for removing overburden and ore material, respectively. Processors on the pontoon receive material from the excavators. Dredging control components coordinate the operation of the ore and overburden excavators to efficiently remove and mine the desired material.

Dredging apparatus

An excavating apparatus for breaking and removing material away from an upright face of material is disclosed. The apparatus includes a rotary cutting head mounted between the fore ends of a pair of boom arms. The boom arms are pivotally mounted relative to the front end of a vehicular portion of the apparatus. A shroud partially surrounds the cutting head for confining material cut from the face. The shroud includes an edge shoe portion for engaging the face and is pivotally mounted at the fore-end of the boom arms. The shroud is adapted for selective rearward pivotal movement as the boom arms are swung upwardly for maintaining the edge shoe portion against the face. A position adjustable, pivotal breaker bar is provided along the cutting head for selectively sizing material being removed from the upright face being excavated. In the preferred embodiment, the breaker bar is pivotally mounted relative to the shroud.

A mechanical drive mechanism is designed for imparting pivotal motion to the frame arm or walking beam of a mineral jig. Rotary cam action is employed to mechanically pivot the walking beam or frame arm which supports a cone and flexible diaphragm at one end for imparting jigging action to the jig bed. Adjustment features are preferably provided to enable the amplitude of the reciprocating motion imparted to the diaphragm and cone to be selectively varied. In the preferred embodiment, the cam is constructed to be pivotal when at rest for enabling the amplitude of the camming action, and correspondingly the pivot stroke, to be varied.

Cam actuated mineral jig

An excavating apparatus for breaking and removing material away from an upright face of material is disclosed. The apparatus includes a rotary cutting head mounted between the fore ends of a pair of boom arms. The boom arms are pivotally mounted relative to the front end of a vehicular portion of the apparatus. A shroud partially surrounds the cutting head for confining material cut from the face. The shroud includes an edge shoe portion for engaging the face and is pivotally mounted at the fore-end of the boom arms. The shroud is adapted for selective rearward pivotal movement as the boom arms are swung upwardly for maintaining the edge shoe portion against the face.

Continuous excavating apparatus

A transportable submerged breakwater is described. The breakwater includes a pair of vertical parallel concrete walls spaced apart from each other. The walls have floatation cells containing buoyant means. The walls have a density slightly less than that of sea water and float in a substantially submerged condition with a top horizontal wall edge at or slightly above the water surface. Rigid members space the walls and rigging means provide tension to hold the walls against the rigid members.

Breakwater

A system is described whereby a large elongated monolithic conduit is formed within an excavation of a single continuous pour of concrete. The open core of the conduit is formed by an interconnected group of tubular form members, forming a static line within the excavation. The system includes a slipform mechanism that is progressively moved along the static line, molding wet concrete about the inner form sections. Successive inner form sections are disconnected from the rearward end of the static line (after the adjacent formed concrete has hardened), reduced in cross-sectional dimension, and transported forwardly through the static line to a forward conduit end. There the individual sections are expanded, cleaned and reattached to the front of the line as the slipform moves along. The successive inner form sections are disconnected, moved forwardly and re-expanded by a self-steering wheel supported transporter. The transporter is powered to move longitudinally within the static line. A trimmer is also provided at a forward end of the slipform to prepare a final grade within the excavation just prior to molding of the wet concrete.

Form handling system

A transversely movable belt conveyor assembly having an articulated frame supporting a single, endless conveyor belt for moving bulk particulate materials. The movable belt conveyor assembly is maintained perpendicular to a fixed reference, such as a receiving conveyor for the material contained thereon. The pivoted frames carrying the long endless belt are automatically maintained in a straight, end-to-end orientation relative to one another. The entire belt conveyor assembly is automatically maintained in a perpendicular relationship to the transverse fixed reference during movement of the assembly. Individual carriers for each segmented frame are independently driven and their relative speeds are controlled along the assembly to maintain the segmented frames in longitudinal alignment. The working flight is maintained laterally horizontal along its entire length to prevent spillage of material.

Movable belt conveyor assembly

A slipform apparatus is described for forming a continuous upright monolithic lining within a preformed upright shaft. The slipform is provided in three independently movable sections that may be lowered into the shaft. Wet concrete is delivered to the sections and dispensed outwardly of the sections to form the lining. The formed sections hold the wet concrete against the walls of the shaft and progressively form a cylindrical upright bore within the shaft. As concrete is delivered to the slipform, the individual sections are moved in an 'inchworm' effect in conjunction with an expansion mechanism to automatically lift itself upwardly within the shaft as the lining is being formed. A steering mechanism is provided to enable selective angular movement of the slipform in a nonvertical plane.

Slipform apparatus for vertical bores

A bidirectional excavator capable of excavating a predetermined swath of earth while moving in a forward or rearward longitudinal direction. The excavator includes a rotatable excavator wheel that operates to disengage and move loosened earth to a centrally located transverse conveyor belt. The belt carries the loosened material to one side of the excavator. Retractable crumbing blades are located on both forward and rearward sides of the excavator wheel. Each is selectively operable to be lowered to an operative position adjacent to the wheel with regard to the selected direction of movement for the machine. The lowered crumbing blade serves to gather and maintain material sloughed from the wheel against the wheel so it may be eventually carried to the discharge conveyor. When it is desired to move the excavator in an opposite direction, the operative crumbing blade is retracted and the previously inoperative plate is extended to its operative position. Design of the excavator wheel is such that it may be rotated in the same direction regardless of directional movement of the machine. Thus, the machine is capable of moving along an elongated path in a forward direction taking a prescribed swath of earth as it goes, and subsequently moving in an opposite direction in order to take the next successive swath.

Bidirectional rotary excavator

A slipform for lining upright shafts with monolithic concrete by pumping concrete downwardly under pressure to a slipform apparatus to simultaneously move the slipform apparatus upwardly within the shaft while concrete is being formed continuously into a monolithic lining within the shaft. The apparatus includes outer and inner slipform members. The outer member includes a sealing mechanism by which the area above the outer slipform is hydraulically sealed from the area below. The inner slipform fits within a conical recess of the outer slipform and includes a lower cylindrical portion for forming the open inside diameter of the lining. Concrete, in a plastic, wet condition, is pumped under pressure between the two slipform members to be molded against the shaft wall into an upwardly open monolithic concrete lining. Since the concrete is pumped between the two forms under pressure, a reaction force is created that operates upwardly against the slipform members. The concrete will thus act to push the forms upwardly within the shaft as it is pumped through the forms. The rate of ascent of the forms is timed in accordance with the setting time of the concrete. Thus, the upwardly moving forms leave a finished, hardened monolithic lining.

A slipform and method for lining upright shafts with monolithic concrete by pumping concrete downwardly through a 'tremmie tube' to a slipform apparatus and simultaneously pulling the slipform apparatus upwardly within the shaft such that the delivered concrete is formed continuously into a monolithic lining within the shaft. The apparatus includes downwardly open outer and inner slipform members. The inner slipform or core member fits within a conical recess of the outer slipform member and includes a lower cylindrical portion for forming the open inside diameter of the lining. Concrete, in a wet condition, is delivered by the tremmie tube between the two slipform members and molded against the shaft wall. The tremmie tube is pulled upwardly from the shaft opening by a hoist mechanism that is also used during the previous drilling operation. The rate of ascent for the form members is timed in accordance with the setting time of the concrete so that the upwardly moving form members leave the formed concrete in a self-supporting state. The tremmie tube is made up of a plurality of interconnected tube sections. In the present method, individual tremmie tube sections are added at the hoist mechanism and then lowered to correspondingly lower the slipform assembly. After descending a desired distance, the steps are reversed and the tube is pulled upwardly at a relatively continuous rate while concrete is pumped down to the form members. Successive tubing lengths are removed as they clear the ground surface.

Slipforming method and apparatus for in situ lining of an upwardly open

A shearing excavator including a unique blade assembly for removing earth in successive layers from a substantially upright face. The successive earth layers are removed by pulling a blade assembly along the full length of the face. The blade assembly is connected to a longitudinal framework that provides support for an earth receiving and transporting conveyor. This conveyor receives material deflected from the blade assembly and directs it to a discharge end adjacent one end of the excavator framework. A lateral conveyor receives the discharged material and moves it to a remote location for further processing. The blade assembly includes an upright first blade with a substantially upright cutting edge. The bottom end of the upright cutting edge is located at a point above the lower edge of the face, leaving a portion thereof to be removed by a second blade. The second blade is horizontally inclined and includes a substantially horizontal forward cutting edge that is located rearward of the first upright cutting edge (with respect to a forward direction travel of the blade assembly). The second blade is inclined upwardly from its cutting edge which is located at the loweredge of the face. The second blade cuts through the earth along the face that remains below the bottom edge of the upright blade.

Shearing excavator

A slipform and method for forming a concrete lining in upright open shafts having been previously filled with a liquid such as drilling mud. The drilling mud below the slipform apparatus is pressurized to push the slipform upwardly within the shaft while it simultaneously forms delivered concrete into a monolithic lining within the shaft. The apparatus includes outer and inner slipform members. The inner slipform member fits within a conical recess of the outer slipform member and includes a lower cylindrical portion for forming the open inside diameter of the lining. Concrete, in a plastic, wet condition, is pumped between the two slipform members to be molded against the shaft wall into an upwardly open monolithic concrete lining. The rate of ascent of the forms is timed in accordance with the setting time of the concrete so that the upwardly moving form leaves a hardened monolithic lining behind. The lining is formed in place in the liquid filled shaft while the liquid (drilling mud) is pumped from above the slipform members to the area below. A hydraulic seal is maintained between the slipform members and the shaft walls. The seal is movable with the slipform members as they move upwardly along the shaft walls. A flotation mechanism is provided in the form of inflatable bladders within the form members to selectively render the form members buoyant.
