Techniques are provided for positioning of a mobile device in a wireless network using directional positioning reference signals (PRS), also referred to as PRS beamforming. In an example method, a plurality of directional PRSs are generated for at least one cell for a base station, such that each of the plurality of directional PRSs comprises at least one signal characteristic and a direction of transmission, either or both of which may be distinct or unique. The plurality of directional PRSs is transmitted within the at least one cell, such that each of the plurality of directional PRSs is transmitted in the direction of transmission. A mobile device may acquire and measure at least one of the directional PRSs which may be identified using the associated signal characteristic. The measurement may be used to assist position methods such as OTDOA and ECID and to mitigate multipath.

Systems and methods to facilitate location determination by beamforming of a positioning reference signal

Disclosed are techniques for determining round-trip times (RTTs) between a user equipment (UE) and multiple base stations. In an aspect, the UE transmits an RTT measurement signal whose arrival time is measured by each of the base stations, and each of the base stations returns an RTT response signal whose arrival times are measured by the UE. In another aspect, the base stations each transmit an RTT measurement signal and the UE returns an RTT response signal. The receiver of the RTT measurement signal may include the measured arrival time in a payload of the RTT Response signal. Alternatively, the measured arrival time(s) of the RTT Measurement signal(s) and the transmission time(s) of the RTT Response signal(s) are sent in a separate message. The RTT signals can be wideband signals using low reuse resources.

Systems and methods for multiple round trip time (RTT) estimation in wireless networks

Methods, systems, computer-readable media, and apparatuses for determination of multipath for determining a location of user equipment (UE) are presented. In some embodiments, the UE may, based on a first indication of signal strength associated with a first polarization type, and a second indication of signal strength associated with a second polarization type, determine an indication of multipath reflection along a path of signal propagation between a space vehicle (e.g., GNSS satellite) and the UE. Circularly polarized positioning signals may be received by the UE via natively present linearly polarized antennas and converted into circularly polarized signals. Converted circularly polarized signals may include right-handed and left-handed components, and signal strengths for each component may be compared to determine the presence of multipath. Positioning signals may be given a weight or disregarded based on the multipath determination when determining the position of the UE.

An example method of receiving radio frequency signals with a remote antenna module includes providing a first signal to a remote receiver on a conductor, receiving a control signal from the remote receiver on the conductor, wherein the control signal is a bias voltage on the conductor, and providing a second signal on the conductor in response to receiving the control signal.

A wearable device that can receive a plurality of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) timing signals using an antenna, where the antenna is located in an exterior portion of the wearable device such that the antenna receives GNSS signals at the external portion of the wearable device, without the GNSS signals first passing through an air gap within a housing of the wearable device. The wearable device is configured to determine a geographic location of the wearable device based at least in part on the GNSS signals. The wearable device is configurable to perform underwater dead-reckoning procedures, measuring energy levels during dwell periods, measuring efficiency of swim strokes, sharing wearable device information with other electronic devices, calibrating the wearable device, or a combination thereof.

Devices and techniques for improving reception or compensating for attenuation of GNSS signals during water immersion activities

Methods, systems, computer-readable media, and apparatuses for determining a UE position within a coverage sub-area of a cell based on cell identity data are presented. In some embodiments, the UE detects one more cell identities, including a cell identity of a serving cell and possibly a cell identity of a neighbor cell of the serving cell. The one or more cell identities are included in cell identity data. The cell identity data is used in a look up of a data structure that associates coverage sub-areas of a coverage area of the serving cell with most likely positions within the coverage sub-areas and with cell identities. The result of the look up indicates that the UE is positioned at a most likely position within a coverage sub-area of the serving cell.

A signal transfer method includes: transferring a direct current signal between a port of an apparatus and a physical transmission line physically coupled to the port; and transferring: a first signal in accordance with a first wireless protocol to the port from a wireless protocol interface, the first signal being a first radio frequency signal; or a second signal in accordance with a second wireless protocol from the port to the wireless protocol interface, the second signal being a second radio frequency signal; or a combination thereof.

Remote device control

A mobile device may be configured to perform concurrent Satellite Positioning System and communication system operation, e.g. enabling an SPS receiver to continue to receive SPS signals in frequency bands that are interfered with due to aggressor transmission signals. A controllable filter, such as a selectable and/or tunable notch or lowpass filter is used to reject the aggressor transmission signals. The controllable filter may also attenuate some, but not all, frequencies in the SPS L1 band. To avoid losing complete access to these filtered SPS signal frequencies, the controllable filter is controlled, e.g., selected or tuned to these frequencies only when the aggressor transmission signal is active, and is otherwise turned off or tuned away from the SPS signal frequencies.

A radio-frequency signal preconditioning method includes: receiving, at a radio-frequency signal preconditioning apparatus from an antenna, a radio-frequency signal; selectively providing, at the radio-frequency signal preconditioning apparatus, any of a plurality of gains to the radio-frequency signal to produce an output signal, the plurality of gains spanning a first range; and providing, from the radio-frequency signal preconditioning apparatus, the output signal to a conversion circuit configured to convert the output signal from an analog signal at a radio frequency to a digital signal at a baseband frequency, the conversion circuit having a dynamic range spanning a second range that is smaller than the first range.

A mobile device may be configured to improve measurement of carrier phase (CP) in received satellite signals for satellite positioning system (SPS) operations. For example, this may enable an SPS receiver to measure CP of at least a first positioning signal and a second positioning signal each received from the same satellite vehicle. A corrected CP of the first positioning signal may be estimated based on the measured CP of the first positioning signal and on the measured CP of the second positioning signal.

Methods and apparatus for improving carrier phase detection in satellite positioning system signals

A Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver for a portable device includes a first linear polarization antenna configured to receive a first linear polarization component of a GNSS signal; a second linear polarization antenna configurable to receive a second linear polarization component of the GNSS signal, a radio frequency signal conforming to a second wireless communication technology, or both; and a hybrid coupler that combines the first linear polarization component of the GNSS signal and the second linear polarization component of the GNSS signal to generate a circularly polarized GNSS signal. In some embodiments, the GNSS receiver includes a tuner to tune the resonant frequency of the second linear polarization antenna. In some embodiments, the GNSS receiver includes a switch or a filter to connect or disconnect the second linear polarization antenna from the hybrid coupler to implement a circular polarization antenna or a linear polarization ante.

A satellite signal processing method includes: receiving, at a user equipment, a first satellite signal of a first frequency band from at least one satellite of a constellation of satellites; receiving, at the user equipment, a second satellite signal of a second frequency band and from the at least one satellite of the constellation of satellites; and controlling an activation status of at least one of: a first satellite signal receive chain, of the user equipment, configured to measure the first satellite signal; or a second satellite signal receive chain, of the user equipment, configured to measure the second satellite signal.
