The instant invention relates to a novel process for the hydrolysis of the by-products produced during the manufacture of methyldichlorosilanes comprising combining the by-products with an aqueous medium, optionally comprising a surfactant, at a pH range of at least about 7 and at a temperature of above about 0.degree. C. to produce a solid material in which copper and other metals are retained in a solid phase thereby resulting in a product with a high copper content.

Process for treating methylchlorosilanes by-products

A process for the passivation of fine particulate matter exiting a reactor train for the manufacture of organohalosilanes comprising treating the particulate matter or fines with an aqueous medium comprising a polyalkylene ether surfactant and optionally an acidifying agent to produce hydrogen, separating the fines from the aqueous medium, and removing water from the fines.

Passivation of methylchlorosilane fines

A process is described for converting the alkyl-rich disilanes in the residue obtained from the manufacture of alkylhalosilanes to halogen-rich polysilanes with alkyltrihalosilanes and simultaneously converting the alkyltrihalosilanes to dialkyldihalosilanes by reacting the alkyl-rich polysilanes in the residue and the alkyltrihalosilanes at an elevated temperature in the presence of a suitable catalyst and a catalytic amount of a hydrosilane reaction promoter. In a preferred embodiment, the residue containing alkyl-rich disilanes is treated with methyltrichlorosilane at a temperature of about 100.degree. C. to about 250.degree. C. in the presence of aluminum trichloride catalyst and a catalytic amount of methyldichlorosilane.

Redistribution of polysilanes in high boiling residues

A process for treating certain particles of less than 40 microns average diameter size in a silicone reactor where methyl chloride is reacted with particles of silicon in the presence of copper to produce chlorosilanes comprising removing particles of less than 40 microns average diameter size; and abraiding said particles to remove the surface coating; and returning said particles to the reactor.
