An apparatus includes a base having walls that define a track. The track has input and output ends and defines a coiled path that spirals inward from the input end, reaches an inflection point where a direction of curvature is reversed, and spirals outward towards the output end. The track is configured to receive and maintain a majority of an optical fiber in an at least substantially planar coiled arrangement. The apparatus also includes a first transition arm positioned at the input end and a second transition arm positioned at the output end. Each transition arm is configured to be mechanically coupled to the base and includes a groove configured to receive and maintain a portion of the optical fiber in an at least substantially straight orientation. The walls and transition arms are configured to maintain thermal contact with the optical fiber along its entire length.

Compact package for high-aspect-ratio rectangular (HARR) optical fiber or other optical fiber

A system includes a compound flexure having a frame, a flexure, and a post flexure. The frame has an axis, and the flexure is located within the frame. The flexure is movable relative to the frame, and the frame and the flexure form at least part of a monolithic structure. The post flexure extends along the axis and engages the flexure. The system also includes a device coupled to the flexure and configured to move with the flexure relative to the frame. The system further includes an actuator coupled to the flexure and configured to move the flexure and the device relative to the frame.

Apparatus and method for providing linear motion of a device

In various embodiments, an optical fiber module including an optical fiber having a first end, a second end, and a twisted portion between the first and second ends to enable the optical fiber to provide two orthogonal transverse bending degrees of freedom. The twisted portion induces an optical distortion. The module further includes a distortion compensation arrangement that is configured to at least partially compensate for the optical distortion and a housing that is configured to house at least a portion of the optical fiber including the twisted portion.

An apparatus includes a device mount configured to be coupled to a component. The apparatus also includes an inner hub coupled to the device mount by a first flexure, where the first flexure is configured to permit translational movement of the device mount within the inner hub along a first axis. The apparatus further includes an outer hub coupled to the inner hub by a second flexure, where the second flexure is configured to permit translational movement of the device mount and the inner hub within the outer hub along a second axis different from the first axis. The first and second flexures form a compound nested flexure. The outer hub is configured to be coupled to a support structure and to permit both (i) translational movement of the apparatus along a third axis different from the first and second axes and (ii) tip/tilt adjustment of the apparatus.

Mounting devices with integrated alignment adjustment features and locking mechanisms

A lens mount assembly is configured to support a lens assembly having a lens ring and at least one lens secured to the lens ring. The lens mount assembly includes a ring mount having an annular body with at least two retaining arms that project from the annular body, a flexure configured to be secured to the ring mount, and at least two bellows. Each bellows is configured to be secured to a respective retaining arm of the at least two retaining arms of the ring mount. The at least two bellows further are configured to engage the flexure.

Systems and techniques for laser metrology. Two or more fanned probe beams are scanned relative to a surface including one or more targets. A position detection module receives return beam information from the fanned probe beams, and determines a position of at least a first target of the one or more targets based on the return beam information.

Multiple fanned laser beam metrology system

An apparatus for deploying a satellite appendage such as an umbrella-like antenna reflector structure is provided. The umbrella-like antenna reflector structure includes a plurality of rib members movable from a stowed configuration to a deployed configuration. The deployment apparatus comprises a deployment tube and a central hub pivotally attached to the plurality of rib members and slidably attached to the deployment tube. The deployment tube is adapted to move along its major axis with respect to the central hub. The deployment apparatus further includes a flexible member connecting the central hub to the deployment tube and a mechanism for tensioning the flexible member. The flexible member can be used to lock the deployment tube, which in turn can be used to lock the umbrella-like structure, in a stowed configuration. Alternatively or additionally, a second flexible member can be used to deploy the deployment tube, which in turn can be used to deploy the umbrella-like structure.
