The present invention provides for a method of dielectrically heating an adhesive between first and second members by first placing an adhesive bead between mating surfaces of the first and second member. A first electrode is placed adjacent to the first member and a high frequency electric field is applied between the first electrode and a second electrode sufficient to dielectrically heat the adhesive.

A hinge and a weather seal are provided for connecting together two adjacent panes in a rear window of an automobile having a fold-down convertible top. The hinge comprises a bonded flexible material, overlapping each adjacent peripheral edge portion of the two panes, on each interior of the rear window surface. The flexible material is preferably bonded to a ceramic frit trim coating located on each adjacent edge portion of the panes so as to screen the flexible material from degradative ultraviolet radiation. The bonded flexible material may comprise a silicone-coated glass fiber cloth having a silicone adhesive thereon for bonding the cloth to the panes. Alternatively, the bonded flexible material may comprise a vinyl-backed cotton fabric dielectrically bonded to the panes. A weather seal, flush with the two panes, is included within a gap located between opposing end portions of the panes. The weather seal may comprise a fluoropolymer resin strip bonded with a silicone adhesive to the end portions of the panes. The weather seal serves to protect the bonded flexible material from environmental degradation.

The first resin, diene functional aminoepoxy resin, and the second resin, blocked dieneophile functional aminoepoxy resin, are co-reactive at elevated cure temperature. The diene functional aminoepoxy resin comprises the reaction product of diepoxide with amine functional diene chain extending reactant and, optionally, monofunctional end-capping reactant such as monohydroxy functional diene, and certain modifying agents. The blocked dieneophile functional aminoepoxy resin comprises the reaction product of diepoxide with amine functional blocked dieneophile chain extending reactant and, optionally, monofunctional end-capping reactant such as monohydroxy functional blocked dieneophile and certain modifying agents. The composition may further comprise crosslinking agent reactive with hydroxy functionality of the resins. The crosslinkable composition of matter is useful in coatings and other applications, especially cathodic electrocoating compositions.

The method disclosed in this specification is one of reducing the green density of an article cast in a slip casting operation. The article is cast from a casting slip containing silicon metal particles, yttrium containing particles, and a small amount of a fluoride salt which is effective to suppress flocculation of the silicon metal particles by y.sup.+3 ions derived from the yttrium containing particles. The method is characterized by the following step. A small amount of compound which produces a cation which will partly flocculate the particles of silicon metal is added to the casting slip. The small amount of this compound is added so that when the casting slip is slip cast into a casting mold, the partly flocculated particles of silicon will interrupt an otherwise orderly packing of the particles of silicon and particles of yttrium. In this manner, the green density of the slip cast article is reduced and the article may be more easily nitrided.

High solids, solvent-based resin composition comprises novel chain-extendable, crosslinkable urethane modified polyhydroxy oligomers, crosslinking agent and, preferably, catalyst(s). The composition cures at elevated temperature to provide a coating on a substrate, such as steel, which is highly resistant to corrosion, humidity and solvents and provides corrosion protection for the substrate. The novel oligomers can be the reaction product of a polyol with a half-blocked diisocyanate, wherein said polyol comprises three or more hydroxy, and the half-blocked diisocyanate comprises the reaction product of an organic diisocyanate with approximately one molar equivalent of a monofunctional blocking agent.

Chain-extendable crosslinkable urethane modified polyhydroxy oligomers

The method concerns forming a relatively stable slip of silicon metal particles and yttrium containing particles. In one embodiment, a casting slip of silicon metal particles is formed in water. Particles of a yttrium containing sintering aid are added to the casting slip. The yttrium containing sintering aid is a compound which has at least some solubility in water to form Y.sup.+3 ions which have a high potential for totally flocculating the silicon metal particles into a semiporous solid. A small amount of a fluoride salt is added to the casting slip which contains the yttrium containing sintering aid. The fluoride salt is one which will produce fluoride anions when dissolved in water. The small amount of the fluoride anions produced are effective to suppress the flocculation of the silicon metal particles by the Y.sup.+3 ions so that all particles remain in suspension in the casting slip and the casting slip has both an increased shelf life and can be used to cast articles having a relatively thick cross-section. The pH of the casting slip is maintained in a range from 7.5 to 9. Preferably, the fluoride salt used is one which is based on a monovalent cation such as sodium or ammonia. The steps of adding the yttrium containing sintering aid and the fluoride salt may be interchanged if desired, and the salt may be added to a solution containing the sintering aid prior to addition of the silicon metal particles.
