A computer-implemented method according to one embodiment includes receiving, at a virtual file system, replicated data from a physical file system, transferring the replicated data from the virtual file system to cloud storage, and providing access to the replicated data in response to an unavailability of the physical file system, utilizing the virtual file system and the cloud storage.

Replicating data utilizing a virtual file system and cloud storage

A computer-implemented method, according to one embodiment, includes: receiving data replication operations from one or more compute nodes at a primary location, storing the received data replication operations in a queue, and dividing the queued data replication operations into a number of independent sub-groups. The number of independent sub-groups is equal to or less than a number of worker gateway nodes. Each of the independent sub-groups are further added to a respective one of the worker gateway nodes. One or more instructions are also sent to each of the worker gateway nodes to send the data replication operations included in the respective independent sub-group to a remote storage location. Other systems, methods, and computer program products are described in additional embodiments.

Scalable and balanced distribution of asynchronous operations in data replication systems

A computer-implemented method, according to one embodiment, includes: establishing a recovery cluster as an acting primary cluster in response to determining that a primary cluster has gone offline. In response to determining that the primary cluster is back online, the acting primary cluster is synched with the online primary cluster by: capturing a snapshot of the acting primary cluster, and pausing a normal queue of the acting primary cluster. The snapshot of the acting primary cluster is further compared with a most recent snapshot of the online primary cluster, and each difference therebetween is added to a priority queue of the acting primary cluster. Each of the differences in the priority queue are transmitted to the online primary cluster, followed by the entries in the normal queue in response to determining that each of the differences in the priority queue have been transmitted to the online primary cluster.

Reducing failback performance duration in data replication systems

A moving weighted average of application bandwidth is calculated based on updates to a first data storage by a first data site. A moving weighted average of transmission bandwidth is calculated based on replication of the updates to a second data storage via a second data site. A next coordinated consistency point is identified and the time remaining before the next consistency point is calculated. An amount of the updates that can be replicated before the next consistency point is determined based on the average transmission bandwidth. A prediction of an amount of additional updates that will be generated on the first data site before the next consistency point is made using heuristics based on the average application bandwidth. When update accumulation combined with the prediction exceeds the amount of updates that can be replicated before the next consistency point, pending updates are flushed to the second data storage.

Snapshots at real time intervals on asynchronous data replication system

Backfill scheduling for embarrassingly parallel jobs. A disclosed method includes: receiving an initial schedule having a plurality of jobs scheduled over time on a plurality of nodes, determining that a first job can be split into a plurality of sub-tasks that can respectively be performed in parallel on different nodes, splitting the first job into the plurality of sub-tasks, and moving a first sub-task from its position in the initial schedule to a new position to yield a first revised schedule.
