Systems and processes for producing syngas and power therefrom are provided. One or more feedstocks and one or more oxidants can be combined in a fluidized reaction zone operated at a temperature from 550&#xb0; C. to 1,050&#xb0; C. to provide a syngas. Heat can be indirectly exchanged in a first zone from the syngas to a condensate to provide steam. Heat can also be indirectly exchanged in a second zone from the syngas to the steam to provide superheated steam. Heat can then be indirectly exchanged in a third zone from the syngas to provide a cooled syngas and the condensate for the first zone. At least a portion of the superheated steam can be directly supplied to one or more steam turbines to produce power.

Efficiency of gasification processes

Systems and processes for producing synthesis gas. A carbonaceous feedstock can be combined with one or more low-oxygen carrier fluids having a high heating value. The feedstock and carrier fluid, in the presence of one or more oxidants, can be gasified to provide a synthesis gas. In one or more embodiments, at least a portion of the synthesis gas can be recycled for use as the carrier fluid.

Systems and methods for treating water. Water containing one or more thermally destructible contaminants can be contacted with one or more oxidants to provide an effluent containing essentially contaminant-free water and a recycle containing the one or more oxidants and at least a portion of the one or more thermally destructible contaminants. The one or more thermally destructible contaminants in the recycle can be thermally destroyed using one or more combustion processes.

Water containing one or more thermally destructible contaminants can be contacted with steam to provide an effluent containing essentially contaminant-free water and a recycle containing the steam and at least a portion of the one or more thermally destructible contaminants. The one or more thermally destructible contaminants in the recycle can be thermally destroyed using one or more combustion processes.

Method for treatment of process waters using steam

Systems and methods for upgrading hydrocarbons are provided. A portion of a hydrocarbon can be vaporized in the presence of gasified hydrocarbons, combustion gas, and solids to provide a vaporized gas. A portion of the hydrocarbon can be cracked in the presence of the gasified hydrocarbons, the combustion gas, and the solids to provide a cracked gas. A portion of the hydrocarbon can be deposited onto the solids to provide hydrocarbon containing solids. At least a portion of the hydrocarbon containing solids can be selectively separated to provide separated hydrocarbon containing solids and a hot gas product. The hot gas product can be at a temperature of from about 400&#xb0; C. to about 1,650&#xb0; C. A portion of the hydrocarbon containing solids can be combusted in the presence of an oxidant to provide the combustion gas. A portion of the hydrocarbon containing solids can be gasified to provide the gasified hydrocarbon.

Systems and methods for upgrading hydrocarbons

A combustion apparatus and process for improved flue gas recirculation wherein the recirculation line penetrates into an exhaust duct, such as the exhaust stack for capturing and directing a portion of said flue gas through the recirculation line which is connected to an air fan inlet which provides induction of the flue gas into the combustion unit. The portion of the recirculation line that extends into the exhaust stack is preferably aerodynamically configured to capture a portion of a flue gas stream without detrimental impedance of the gas flow.

Apparatus and method to control emissions of nitrogen oxide

A combustion apparatus which has a post combustion hot gas fan and a recirculation duct positioned down stream from the fan to reduce NOx emissions by returning a portion of the exhaust from the combustion zone back to the combustion zone. For example, in one embodiment the increased velocity of the exhaust gas stream from the post combustion hot gas fan which is required to overcome the pressure drop in a post combustion treatment unit is used as the motive force for the recirculation of a portion of the exhaust to the combustion zone to reduce the NOx exiting the apparatus to a level below that of the post combustion treatment alone.
