Ranging operations may be performed between an initiator device and a responder device using data frames as opposed to fine timing measurement (FTM) frames or Null Data Packet (NDP) frames. An initiator device may request the responder device to perform a ranging operation. The responder device may transmit a data frame to the initiator device and may receive an acknowledgement (ACK) frame from the responder device. The responder device may transmit a second data frame to the initiator device that includes ranging measurement information for the previous message exchange, including a time of departure of the data frame and a time of arrival of the ACK frame. Because data frames are encrypted, the ranging measurement information is provided in a secure manner. Moreover, by including the ranging measurement information in data frames, throughput for the ranging procedure is improved.

Methods and apparatus for Wi-Fi ranging protocol enhancement with reduced throughput impact

Techniques are provided for improving ranging accuracy of ultrawideband (UWB) devices. An example method for obtaining a distance measurement with a wireless node includes obtaining a first distance measurement using a first radio link, determining a status of a second radio link in response to the first distance measurement being less than a threshold distance, configuring one or more transceiver parameters associated with the second radio link in response to determining the second radio link is utilizing a non-line of sight path, and obtaining a second distance measurement using the second radio link and the one or more transceiver parameters.

Disclosed are systems and techniques for performing mapping using radio frequency (RF) sensing. For instance, a server can obtain a first set of RF sensing data and orientation data corresponding to a first wireless device from a plurality of wireless devices. The first set of RF sensing data can be associated with at least one received waveform that is a reflection of a transmitted waveform from a first reflector. Based on the first set of RF sensing data, orientation data, and location data corresponding to the first wireless device, an indoor map can be generated that includes a reference to the reflector.

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some systems, a wireless station (STA), which may be an example of a virtual reality (VR) device, may receive downlink data or video frames from an access point (AP) for a display at the wireless STA. In some aspects, the wireless STA may detect a motion change of the wireless STA based on employing a motion change detection mechanism and, if the wireless STA detects a motion change, may transmit an indication of the motion change detection to the AP via a feedback message, such as a block acknowledgement (BA) feedback message. The wireless STA, based on detecting the motion change, may additionally transmit a set of inertial measurements of the wireless STA to the AP. The wireless STA may transmit the inertial measurements to the AP via the feedback message or a separate uplink message.
