A method of providing a visualization () of one or more areas obscured by a trailer () attached to a vehicle () is provided. The method includes receiving first image data () from a first camera () positioned on a front portion of the vehicle () when the vehicle and the trailer are moving in a forward direction or a rear portion of the trailer when the vehicle and the trailer are moving in a rearward direction. The method also includes storing the received first image data. The method includes receiving speed data () of the vehicle from a speed sensor (). The method also includes determining a visualization () of an area (Area 2) underneath the trailer () based on the stored first image data () and the speed data (), and sending instructions to a display () to display the visualization of the area underneath the trailer.

One general aspect includes a driver assistance system for a vehicle. The driver assistance system also includes a camera system having at least one rear camera constructed and arranged to obtain an image of an area behind a rear of the vehicle; a tailgate position determining system constructed and arranged to determine a position of a tailgate of the vehicle, and where the image provided by the camera system of the rear of the vehicle is selected based upon the position of the tailgate of the vehicle.

A method and apparatus for calibrating an image from a camera mounted on a vehicle using camera pose parameter determined from information relating to suspension level from a suspension system of the vehicle. The difference in the suspension level compared with a suspension level datum can be determined and an adjustment to the camera pose parameter values can be obtained from the difference in the suspension level.
