A coating assembly for coating jaws of an electrosurgical instrument includes a dispensing device and a jaw applicator. The dispensing device has a non-stick coating material contained therein and includes a discharge port. The jaw applicator includes an applicator body defining a cavity therein. The applicator body includes a first wall and a second wall disposed in spaced relation relative to each other and the cavity extends therebetween. Each of the first and second walls has openings defined therethrough that are in open communication with the cavity. The discharge port of the dispensing device is configured to engage the jaw applicator in a fluid tight manner to define a flow path for the non-stick coating material that extends out of the discharge port, into the cavity of the applicator body, and out of the openings defined in the first and second walls.

Application of non-stick coatings onto jaws of electrosurgical tissue sealing instruments

A mesh deployment device is configured to place a surgical mesh on tissue retro muscularly. In particular, the mesh deployment device includes an arm assembly that is transitionable between a retracted configuration, in which, stationary and covering arms are in superposed relation such that the surgical mesh is supported by the supporting arm therebetween, and a deployed configuration, in which, the stationary, covering, and supporting arms are circumferentially spaced apart to support the surgical mesh thereon.

A surgical instrument including a housing, an elongated portion, an end effector, and an illumination mechanism. The end effector is disposed adjacent a distal portion of the elongated portion and is configured to manipulate tissue. The illumination mechanism includes an actuator, at least one light, and at least one elongated light rod. The actuator is disposed in operative engagement with the housing. The at least one light includes a shell and is disposed adjacent a distal portion of the elongated portion. The at least one elongated light rod is disposed in mechanical cooperation with the actuator and with the at least one light. The at least one light is movable from a first position where a portion of the shell is flush with the outer wall of the elongated portion to a second position where the portion of the shell is disposed at an angle relative to the outer wall of the elongated portion.

An electrosurgical forceps includes first and second shafts configured to rotate about a pivot to move jaw members between an open position and a closed position. A knife deployment mechanism is operably coupled to a knife and is configured to move the knife between a retracted position and an extended position. A knife lockout is configured to move between a first position wherein the jaw members are in the open position and movement of the knife from the retracted position to the extended position is prevented, a second position wherein the jaw members are in the closed position and movement of the knife from the retracted position to the extended position is permitted, and a third position wherein the jaw members are in the closed position and movement of the knife from the retracted position to the extended position is prevented.

A surgical stapling device includes a tool assembly having an anvil assembly and a cartridge assembly. The anvil assembly includes a staple deforming surface and defines an elongate channel that supports a roller. The staple deforming surface defines a transverse slot. The roller supports a buttress material that can be pulled through the transverse slot to position the buttress material atop the staple forming surface.
