The invention relates to a thermoplastic polyurethane fibers, and process of making the same, where the described fiber has good dyeability, and in some embodiments, good flame retardant properties. Such fibers are made from a composition that includes (a) a thermoplastic polyurethane itself comprising the reaction product of: (i) one or more polyols, (ii) one or more diisocyanates, (iii) one or more chain extenders, (iv) optionally one or more crosslinking agents, and (v) one or more functional modifiers wherein each said functional modifier is a reaction product of an aminodiol and a Bronsted acid.

The present invention relates to elastomeric resins, fibers made from said resins, fabrics made with said fibers, and applications and uses for the resins, fibers and fabrics. The elastomer resins of the invention provide high strength fibers and well balanced fabrics with good physical properties and chemical resistance, making them attractive for use in various applications that use elastic fibers and fabrics.

A spin pack assembly for use in melt spinning elastic fibers. The spin pack assembly includes a circular breaker plate having a center aperture and several circular patterns of apertures with each circular pattern having a plurality of apertures. Each circular pattern is located concentrically about an axis of the center aperture. The apertures in the outer circular patterns have a greater diameter than the apertures in the inner circular patterns. The spin pack assembly also has a spinneret plate where the exit aperture of the spinneret plate is recessed in the body of the spin pack assembly.

Method of melt spinning an elastomeric fiber

The present invention discloses a thermoplastic polyurethane which is comprised of the reaction product of (1) a hydroxyl terminated intermediate, (2) a polyisocyanate, and (3) a glycol chain extender selected from the group consisting of ethylene glycol and propylene glycol; wherein the hydroxyl terminated intermediate is selected from the group consisting of hydroxyl terminated polyether intermediates and hydroxyl terminated polyester intermediates; wherein the hydroxyl terminated intermediate is comprised of repeat units that are derived from a branched glycol or is comprised of at least 2 different repeating units; wherein the thermoplastic polyurethane has a weight average molecular weight of at least 100,000 Daltons; wherein the thermoplastic polyurethane includes hard segments that are the reaction product of the polyisocyanate and the glycol chain extender; and wherein the hard segments represent from 10 to 40 weight percent of the total weight of the thermoplastic polyurethane.

Soft, elastic, plasticizer-free thermoplastic polyurethane and process to synthesize the same

Thermoplastic polyether polyurethane polymers are disclosed which are mixed with a crosslinking agent to achieve long run times in a melt spinning process to make elastic fibers. The crosslinking agent is preferably a polyether or polyester polyol reacted with a diisocyanate. A melt spinning process is also disclosed using a polyether polyurethane with a crosslinking agent. Long melt spinning run times can be achieved without experiencing excessive pressure buildup in the spinneret and fiber breakage. The thermoplastic polyether polyurethane polymers are made by reacting: (1) a blend of two or more hydroxyl terminated intermediates wherein one intermediate is a polyether intermediate and has a higher number average molecular weight than the other said polyether intermediates, and wherein the weighted average number average molecular weight of said blend is greater than 1200 Daltons; (2) at least one polyisocyanate; and (3) at least one hydroxyl terminated chain extender. Melt spun fibers disclosed have excellent dye pickup, bleach resistance, and color fastness. The melt spun fibers can be dyed with polyester fibers and retain excellent physical properties.

Melt spun polyether TPU fibers having mixed polyols and process

Articles such as melt spun elastic tape and heaving denier monofilament fibers are made from thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) polymers. The process to make the articles involves using a substantially horizontal cooling to cool the melt spun articles. Preferably, the cooling is accomplished by a water bath. A crosslinking agent is added to the TPU polymer melt to enhance the elastic properties of the articles.

The thermoplastic polyether polyurethane is prepared by reacting a hydroxyl terminated polyether intermediate, an aromatic chain extender glycol, and a polyisocyanate. The polymers formed are useful for melt-spun fibers, fabric coatings for breathable garments, house wrap, roofing membranes, and other applications requiring high vapor transmission and high melting points.

Heat resistant high moisture vapor transmission thermoplastic polyurethane

This invention is comprised of a thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer fiber obtained by melt spinning a polyurethane having a rebound of 60% or greater and a isocyanate-terminated polyether or polyester additive. The elastic fibers have low shrinkage, high heat resistance, low tensile set, and high elongation.

Polyurethane elastomeric fiber and process for making the fiber

A thermoplastic polyether polyurethane having good rebound resilience and low hysteresis properties is prepared by the reaction of a diisocyanate with a hydroxyl terminated polyether having a weight average molecular weight of at least 1,400 and a glycol chain extender. The polyether contains alkylene oxide repeat units having from 2 to 6 carbon atoms and the chain extender glycol has from 2 to 16 carbon atoms. The amount of the chain extender glycol is from about 0.25 to about 2 moles per mole of the polyether.

The present invention discloses a novel polyurethane composition useful as a dispersing binder. The binder yields magnetic dispersions having high gloss values. Moreover, the polyurethane provides excellent hydrolytic stability. The polyurethane comprises a polyol, a diisocyanate a chain extender and an functional modifier formed of a reaction product of an aminodiol and Bronsted Acid.
