A local attachment element in an access domain is configured to perform a fast authentication procedure without involving a centralized attachment element in a core network domain. Stated in other words, there is provided a regional authentication concept for any access in a multi-access environment.

Multi-access authentication in communication system

The invention relates to method and structures for mobility policy e.g. in a Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, WiMAX, based communication. According to embodiments, a method and devices for mobility control of a terminal are provided wherein a mobility policy parameter defines the mobility control of the terminal. The mobility policy parameter preferably is part of a mobility policy or subscription record stored for a subscriber of the terminal in a subscriber data base. The mobility policy parameter may include at least one of an indication of mobility restriction, possibly indicating included or excluded cells or areas etc; an indication of fixed access, indicating a fixed base station to which the subscriber has to request access; nomadicity, indicating that no handover is allowed for that particular subscriber; and restricted mobility limited to a group of base stations or areas. Embodiments allow to deploy mobile WiMAX for fixed access applications, enabling reuse of existing technology and further development towards full mobility.

Method and structures for mobility policy in a WiMAX communications system

The present invention provides methods, apparatuses, and systems for supporting emergency calls on a WiMAX access network. According to an embodiment of the invention, a method of providing emergency calling in a WiMAX network is provided. The method includes determining whether a call from a subscriber station (SS) is an emergency call. To enable making an emergency call, the minimum bandwidth required to enable SIP signaling is reserved and required resources are allocated from the access service network gateway (ASN-GW) via a base station (BS).

In an example embodiment, a method may comprise authenticating a subscriber based upon one or more messages received from a subscriber equipment, via an Access Network Gateway (ANG); sending an access authorization message to the ANG authorizing the subscriber equipment; and wherein the access authorization message includes an address of a tunnel endpoint node and a tunnel method identifier (ID) to be used by the ANG to establish a tunnel between the ANG and the tunnel endpoint node for the subscriber equipment.

For enabling multiple point-to-multipoint (PTM) services in a radio communication network system, when joining sessions relating to multiple PTM services is requested by a user equipment first, a first context between the user equipment and network elements providing the multiple PTM services is created, wherein the first context relates to signaling, and when activation of one of the sessions for which the first context has been created is requested by the user equipment first, a second context between the user equipment and network elements providing an PTM service of the multiple PTM services is created, to which PTM service the session relates, wherein the second context relates to user data of the PTM service.

A stand-alone solution by way of a unified attachment node, an integrated solution by way of an intelligent access node, and an overall system solution by way of a unified attachment solution, which are for a multi-access network attachment. The unified attachment solution may include a unified attachment node and an intelligent access node. Stated in other words, there is provided an evolution towards a unified attachment solution for any access in a multi-access environment.

A network element provides multicast/broadcast support. The network element is configured to process streams which are transported by a media access control layer, wherein the streams use separate multicast bursts, and to process streams which are transported on an internet protocol. Each of the streams transported by the media access control layer comprises a related connection identity, and each of the streams transported on an internet protocol comprises a related internet protocol flow, wherein a mapping is present between a connection identity and an internet protocol flow for each stream.
