Multi-stage process for purifying carbon dioxide and producing acid

A method of producing a carbon dioxide product stream from a synthesis gas stream formed within a hydrogen plant having a synthesis gas reactor, a water-gas shift reactor, located downstream of the synthesis gas reactor to form the synthesis gas stream and a hydrogen pressure swing adsorption unit to produce a hydrogen product recovered from the synthesis gas stream. In accordance with the method the carbon dioxide from the synthesis gas stream by separating the carbon dioxide from the synthesis gas stream in a vacuum pressure swing adsorption system, thereby to produce a hydrogen-rich synthesis gas stream and a crude carbon dioxide stream and then purifying the crude carbon dioxide stream by a sub-ambient temperature distillation process thereby to produce the carbon dioxide product. A hydrogen synthesis gas feed stream to the hydrogen pressure swing adsorption unit is formed at least in part from the hydrogen rich stream.

Carbon dioxide production method

The present invention generally relates to vacuum pressure swing adsorption (VPSA) processes and apparatus to recover carbon dioxide having a purity of approximately &#x2267;90 mole % from streams containing at least carbon dioxide and hydrogen (e.g., syngas). The feed to the COVPSA unit can be at super ambient pressure. The COVPSA unit produces three streams, a H-enriched stream, a H-depleted stream and a COproduct stream. When the COVPSA unit is installed between an SMR/shift reactor and a HPSA unit, hydrogen recovery is expected to be increased by extracting CO, thereby increasing hydrogen partial pressure in the HPSA feed. The stream from the COVPSA unit, normally used as fuel, is recycled as feed to increase COrecovery. The recovered COcan be further upgraded, sequestered or used in applications such as enhanced oil recovery (EOR).

Process and apparatus for carbon dioxide recovery

The present invention generally relates to vacuum pressure swing adsorption (VPSA) processes and apparatus to recover carbon dioxide having a purity of approximately &#x2267;80 mole percent from streams containing at least carbon dioxide and hydrogen (e.g., syngas). The feed to the COVPSA can be at super ambient pressure. The COVPSA unit produces two streams, a H-enriched stream and a COproduct stream. The process cycle steps are selected such that there is minimal or no hydrogen losses from the process. The recovered COcan be further upgraded, sequestered or used in applications such as enhanced oil recovery (EOR).
