A powerful direct digital control (DDC) and integration control platform that is scalable and easy to use and meet building owners and contractors' desires for a highly secure and robust technical solution. One may combine heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) DDC control with the embedded workstation platform, and DDC controllers with embedded workstation platform software design. An embedded workstation platform event-driven approach (such as a Windows operating system (OS) or Unix OS environment) is not necessarily easily suited to real-time common in HVAC DDC control. The present system may solve an issue of combining high-power event needs for HVAC DDC Controls.

A method of assigning IP addresses to devices of a building control network includes receiving a selection of selected devices of a plurality of devices from a user interface. The selected devices are displayed in a predetermined order on a display. A proposed static IP address for a first device in the predetermined order of the selected devices is received from the user interface. A static IP address is sequentially assigned to each of the selected devices following the first device in accordance with the predetermined order, assuming the subnet mask has been confirmed as valid. The selected devices in the predetermined order along with the assigned static IP addresses for each of the selected devices are displayed on the display. The assigned static IP address for each of the selected devices are downloaded to the corresponding one of the selected devices.

Batch assignment of IP addresses in a building control network

An HVAC controller provides control values to or more output ports of the HVAC controller. Operation of the HVAC controller is monitored for one or more irregularities. When one or more irregularities in the operation are identified, a hold mode is entered. The hold mode includes holding the one or more current control values on the one or more output ports of the HVAC controller until the one or more irregularities in the operation of the HVAC controller are corrected or a predetermined hold time expires, whichever occurs first. When the one or more irregularities in the operation of the HVAC controller are not corrected before the predetermined hold time expires, a back off mode is entered. The back off mode includes setting each of one or more control values on one or more output ports of the HVAC controller to a corresponding configurable back off value.

Building system controller with multiple equipment failsafe modes

A control system for controlling operation of a plurality of building control devices includes a pool of virtual controllers that are hosted on one or more computing device and are configured to provide control commands for controlling one or more associate building control devices of the plurality of building control devices. Each of a plurality of edge controllers are associated with at least one building control device and are configured to receive and execute control commands from one or more of the virtual controllers to control the associated one or more building control devices. An orchestrator is configured to monitor one or more operational characteristics of each of the virtual controllers and to modify one or more aspects of the pool of virtual controllers when one or more of the operational characteristics of one or more of the virtual controllers meets predetermined characteristics.

Method and system for managing virtual controllers in a building management system

A distributed building management system includes a virtual controller and an edge controller for controlling a building control device using a distributed control logic that is distributed between the virtual controller and the edge controller. A programming tool displays a graphical representation of the distributed control logic and identifies which portions of the distributed control logic are considered critical and which portions of the distributed control logic are considered not critical to a fail-safe operation of the building control device should the edge controller stop receiving control commands from the virtual controller. The portions of the distributed control logic that are identified as being critical are assigned to the edge controller for execution and the portions of the distributed control logic that are not identified as being critical are assigned to the virtual controller for execution.

A system and approach that may provide a protocol independent environment to configure an ASC (application specific control) device in, for example, a heating, ventilation and air conditioning system. By using this system and approach, a user may reuse a device configuration already done for a device of one protocol in a device of another protocol without being required to reconfigure the latter device from scratch. This way may help a user to reduce the total setup time required to fully configure a device. The reduction may be done by simply exporting the configuration information from the first device and then importing the configuration information into the second device, where the internal protocol specific details can be handled internally by a tool. Thus, a user need not bother with the details that are in the background of the moving a configuration among devices of different protocols.

A method and apparatus for managing applications by an electronic device are provided. The method and apparatus include identifying, by a processor, a secondary application based on an application executed on the electronic device or content included in the application, displaying a representation corresponding to the secondary application on the electronic device, selecting the representation based on an input, and invoking the secondary application corresponding to the selected representation on the electronic device.
