Compositions are provided, the compositions comprising: (1) a nanoparticle; (2) optionally, a linker and/or masking agent; and (3) a ligand configured to activate peri-tumoral cells to induce scarring by the peri-tumoral cells. In some aspects, administration of the compositions to a subject may generate an environment capable of walling-off and containing invasive tumors.

Compositions and methods for inducing scarring by peri-tumoral cells

An apparatus for guiding the migration of cancer and other cells includes a reservoir device, a cover, a tube, a nanofiber structure, and a lock device. The reservoir device defines a reservoir having an open top. The cover is configured for removable installation over the open top of the reservoir. The tube has a proximal end portion reaching into the reservoir. The nanofiber structure communicates an inlet port in the tube with the reservoir. The lock device interlocks the tube with the reservoir device, and also interlocks the nanofiber structure with the reservoir device.

Bi-directional access to tumors

Methods, devices, and systems are provided for guiding tumor movement, particularly in vivo for treatment of patients. The method may include implanting into a tissue site where tumor cells are present a device having one or more surface structures or substrates, such as aligned nanofibers, which provide physical guidance cues for directing the migration of the tumor cells from the first tissue location to a selected second location, for tumor cell extraction or death. The devices and systems may include a cytotoxic agent for contacting tumor cells migrated via the substrate. All or a portion of the at least one substrate may include one or more biochemical cues, such as a coating of laminin or another protein, which may be provided in a concentration gradient to facilitate uni-directional tumor cell migration.

Devices, systems, and methods for excavating cancer cells

Systems, methods, and devices for neuromodulation are described herein. For example, a method for modulating inflammatory processes of a subject is described. The method can include stimulating the subject's vagus nerve to activate an efferent pathway, and stimulating the subject's vagus nerve to inhibit neural activity. Pairing activation of the efferent pathway and inhibition of neural activity can enhance an anti-inflammatory response of the subject.

Systems, methods, and devices for neuromodulation

Liposomes of a size of less than 200 nanometers target tumors and preferentially deliver imipramine blue to tumors, including brain tumors such as gliomas. The imipramine blue decreases the invasiveness of the tumors, and inhibits tumor metastasis. The liposomes include cholesterol and chemically pure phospholipids that are essentially neutral and contain saturated fatty acids of between 16 and 18 carbon atoms, such as distearoylphosphatidyl choline, and can also include one or more pegylated phospholipids, such as DSPE-PEG.

Nanocarrier therapy for treating invasive tumors

Compositions and methods are disclosed for evaluating a subject's vasculature integrity, for differentiating between a malignant lesion and a benign lesion, for evaluating the accessibility of a tumor to nano-sized therapeutics, for treating tumors, and for live or real time monitoring of a nano-probe's biodistribution.

Nano-scale contrast agents and methods of use

Example compositions of liposomes with hydrophilic polymers on their surface, and containing relatively high concentrations of contrast-enhancing agents for computed tomography are provided. Example pharmaceutical compositions of such liposomes, when administered to a subject, provide for increased contrast of extended duration, as measured by computed tomography, in the bloodstream and other tissues of the subject. Also provided are example methods for making the liposomes containing high concentrations of contrast-enhancing agents, and example methods for using the compositions.

Compositions and methods for enhancing contrast in imaging

A scaffold for tissue regeneration is provided. In a preferred embodiment, the scaffold is implantable in a patient in need of nerve or other tissue regeneration and includes a structure which has a plurality of uniaxially oriented nanofibers made of at least one synthetic polymer. Preferably, at least 75% of the nanofibers are oriented within 20 degrees of the uniaxial orientation. The scaffold beneficially provides directional cues for cell and tissue regeneration, presumably by mimicking the natural strategy using filamentous structures during development and regeneration.

Nanofilament scaffold for tissue regeneration

A method of promoting neuronal regeneration includes administering an agent to at least one neural cell in contact with at least one neural cell growth inhibiting component in an amount effective to promote neuronal regeneration. The agent is selected from the group consisting of a Class I Rho family GTPase, a C1 activator, a Class II Rho family GTPase, and a C2 inhibitor.
