Disclosed is a method and apparatus by which a sample can be taken from a process and be analyzed on-line by means of a capillary electrophoresis apparatus. On the feed side of the capillary electrophoresis unit () the sample is continuously collected via a duct () from the process into the sample feeding system and fed into the capillary ducts () through the same duct as is the feed solution, and all the solutions () both on the feed side and on the exit end of the capillary electrophoresis unit () are pumped through the flow ducts, and the liquids flown through the capillary are removed on the exit end of the capillary electrophoresis unit () by means of a liquid treatment system.

Method for analyzing a sample from a process with on-line capillary electrophoresis apparatus and capillary electrophoresis apparatus

The invention relates to a capillary electrophoresis apparatus, comprising background solution containing reservoirs, which are interconnected by way of a separating capillary ( ), current electrodes (E) connected to a voltage source, and a detector ( ) essentially in the proximity of the outlet end of the separating capillary ( ), as well as one or more solution reservoirs (R -R ) on the injection side of the apparatus and one or more solution reservoirs (R -R ) on the detector side of the apparatus, the ends of the separating capillary ( ) being placed in expansions ( ), intended for feeding various solutions from the reservoirs (R -R ) and extending from the bottom ends of capillary tubes ( ), said expansions extending as waste ducts (W , W ) to waste containers, said waste containers being located at a distance from the ends of the separating capillary ( ), and the current electrodes (E) being located in the waste ducts (W , W ), preferably in the proximity of the discharge ends thereof.

Capillary electrophoresis apparatus

The invention relates to a method and device for introducing a sample into the separation capillary of a capillary zone electrophoresis apparatus, which capillary zone electrophoresis apparatus comprises two reservoirs which contain a background electrolyte solution, the reservoirs being interconnected by a capillary tube which contains background electrolyte solution; electrodes placed in the reservoirs, the electrodes being connected to a high-voltage source; and a detector at the outlet end of the capillary. The sample is injected by means of a fixed or movable sample-injection capillary by placing the sample-injection capillary in the vicinity of the inlet end of the capillary of the capillary zone electrophoresis apparatus in such a manner that the sample solution will surround the said inlet end entirely, and sample is transferred into the separation capillary by means of an electrophoresis electric current or in some other manner, and after a predetermined time the solution is withdrawn from the vicinity of the said inlet end, whereupon the sample solution is replaced by the background solution.
