A multiplayer neutral bus that includes a plurality of conductive layers and a plurality of bushings is provided. At least a portion of the conductive layers are spaced apart from each other and form separate electrical flow paths. The conductive layers and bushings are arranged so that each bushing is electrically coupled to each of the other bushings. A method of installing the neutral bus is provided.

Systems and methods are provided to cool a heat producing component in an electrical machine system. The electrical machine includes a supercritical carbon dioxide (SCO) wherein the SCOis a working medium of a heat exchanger that is arranged in the electrical machine system to cool a fluid that cools the heat producing component and/or wherein the SCOdirectly cools at the heat producing component.

A system for cooling windings of generator rotor is presented. The system includes a cooling passage including inlet and outlet radial bores radially extending into rotor shaft extension, inlet and outlet axial bores axially extending within rotor shaft extension, first and second radial bores radially extending from cavities under two retaining rings into rotor shaft extension, and an axial passage through windings from cavity under retaining ring at turbine end side to cavity under retaining ring at excitation end side. A coolant flows through the cooling passage and directly cools windings by traveling through entire windings. The system uses non-explosive fluid as coolant eliminating using hydrogen as coolant and provides sufficient direct cooling of windings of a high power density generator rotor without extensive piping.

System and method for cooling windings of generator rotor

Rotor windings for a thermo pump-cooled generator have an internally formed cooling passage having a cooling inlet on a radial underside of the motor end winding portion and a cooling outlet on a radial upper side of the axial portion that is oriented within the generator air gap. The cooling passage in the rotor winding exhausts air from end winding portions that are circumscribed by a generator retaining ring into the generator air gap.

An apparatus (structure) is provided to support a superconductor winding () of an electromotive machine. An assembly (), such as a cradle, may define a recess to receive the superconductor winding. An elongated loop () provides radial support to the winding. Loopmay be made of a material resistant to heat flow, such as a fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) material. Assembly () may be arranged to support elongated loop () at a distal end () of the loop. A base assembly () may be arranged to anchor the elongated loop at a proximate end () of the loop. A support structuremay be arranged to provide tangential load support to the assembly.

Apparatus to support superconducting windings in a rotor of an electromotive machine

An apparatus (structure) is provided to support a superconductor winding () of an electromotive machine. One or more elongated loops () and appropriate support structure () may be arranged to provide radial and tangential support to the superconducting winding (). The elongated loops may be made of a material substantially resistant to heat flow. An axially-extending base assembly () may be arranged to anchor loops () with respect to the rotor core at a proximate end () of the elongated loops. A cradle () may be configured to define a recess () to receive the superconductor winding and to support the elongated loops at a distal end () of the loops.

Apparatus to support superconducting windings in a rotor of an electomotive machine

An apparatus (structure) is provided to support a superconductor winding () of an electromotive machine. An elongated loop () provides radial support to the winding. A base assembly () may include a base module () arranged to anchor the loop at a proximate end () of the elongated loop by way of a tubular coupling (). The tubular coupling may further provide a mechanical connection relative to an axially-adjacent base module. A bracket assembly () may define an interior recess to receive a portion of the winding and to support the elongated loop at a distal end () of the elongated loop, such as by way of a support (). A lateral-extending loop () may have a first end connected to the bracket assembly () and a second end connected to the base module () to transfer to the rotor core lateral loads, which may be experienced by the winding.

The present invention increases the life of a pole crossover while minimizing the need for timely inspections and costly replacements. The present invention splits the pole crossover bandat one or more locations along its circumference and then joins the multiple arcs with a flexible member, such as an omega shaped bow. As deflection related stressesincrease, the circumference of the pole crossover band, the flexible memberallows for a natural expansion point in the otherwise rigid material. This relieves stresses that would otherwise be transferred to the connection pointbetween the pole crossover and the generator windings that can cause cracking and eventually generator failure.

A method and apparatus for tuning the torsional natural frequency of a rotor is disclosed. At least one tuning slot is formed within the winding slots defined by radially projecting winding teeth. The tuning slot extends radially inward from the bottom of the winding slot a distance to tune the rotor to a desired torsional natural frequency. This tuning slot can be positioned preferably at the quadrature axis.
