An interface converter module includes a metallized housing having a first end and a second end. A printed circuit board is mounted within the housing and has mounted thereon electronic circuitry configured to convert data signals from a host device transmission medium to the second transmission medium. The printed circuit board has not more than twenty contact fingers adhered at one end in order to form a host connector, a media connector is at the other end of the module. The media end having a dual LC duplex optical receptacle, where each duplex portion of the dual LC duplex optical receptacle houses a ROSA and a TOSA. The module and receiver may include interengaging rails and slots and/or keys and keyways to ensure correct matching of modules and receptacles.

Multi-port pluggable transceiver (MPPT) with multiple LC duplex optical receptacles

A pluggable transceiver module comprising a housing having a first side and a face perpendicular to the first side, and a tab extending beyond the surface of the first side, and the tab sized to mate with a slot in a receptacle of a host device for receiving the pluggable transceiver module housing; a member slidably mounted on the first side proximate the tab; a lever rotatably mounted on the housing, whereby rotating the lever causes the member to slide between the tab and the slot on the receptacle and remove the tab from within the slot, thereby releasing the pluggable transceiver module from the receptacle. The lever includes a free end and a rotatably mounted end, the rotatably mounted end including an extension adjacent to the member, such that extending the free end outward causes the extension to drive the member inward.

Wire lever actuator mechanism for optical transceiver

A pluggable transceiver module having a housing with a first side and a face perpendicular to the first side, and a tab extending above the surface of the first side sized to mate with a slot in a receptacle for the housing, a wedge slidably mounted on the first side proximate the tab, and a lever attached to the wedge extending beyond the face of the housing, wherein pressing the lever causes the wedge to slide between the tab and the slot on the receptacle and remove the tab from within the slot, thereby releasing the transceiver module from the receptacle, and the lever further including a recess enabling a person to at least partially insert a fingernail to easily grip and remove the pluggable transceiver module from the receptacle.

A transceiver module having a housing with a first side and a face perpendicular to the first side, and a tab extending above the surface of the first side sized to mate with a slot in a receptacle for the housing, a wedge slidably mounted on the first side proximate the tab, and a release lever attached to the wedge extending beyond the face of the housing, wherein pressing the release lever causes the wedge to slide between the tab and the slot on the receptacle and remove the tab from within the slot, thereby releasing the transceiver module from the receptacle.

Transceiver module with extended release lever

A device which is surface mountable to a printed circuit board. The device includes a housing, an optical sub-assembly, and an electrical connector. The housing includes a fiber optic connector receptacle and a bottom side. The housing is made of an electrically conductive material. The optical sub-assembly is associated with the fiber optic connector receptacle. The electrical connector has contacts, where some portions of the contacts extend into the housing and some portions of the contacts extend from the housing. A portion of the contacts being in a same plane with the bottom side of the housing.

A pluggable transceiver module having a housing with a first side and a face perpendicular to the first side, and a tab extending beyond the surface of the first side, and the tab sized to mate with a slot in a receptacle of a host device for receiving the pluggable transceiver module housing, an elongated member slidably mounted to the first side of the housing and having an internal end and an external end, a wedge on the internal end of the elongated member, wherein sliding the elongated member inward causes the wedge to slide between the tab and the slot on the receptacle and remove the tab from within the slot, thereby releasing the pluggable transceiver module from the receptacle, and a lever rotatably mounted via an axle proximate the face of the pluggable transceiver module, said axle being connected to the external end of the elongated member such that rotating the lever away from the face of the pluggable transceiver cause the rotating axle to push the elongated member inward and drive the wedge between the tab and the slot in order to release the pluggable transceiver module from the receptacle.

Pluggable transceiver module having rotatable release and removal lever with living hinge

A device including two modules is provided for transferring data signals from a first transmission medium to a second transmission medium. One module includes a conductive housing having a first end and a second end. An electrical connector is mounted at the first end of the housing and is configured to mate to a corresponding connector associated with the first transmission medium. The housing includes a flexible metallic shielded cable extending from the second end. The remote end of the shielded cable is connected to the second module which is configured to mate to a corresponding connector associated with the second transmission medium. The device is pluggable into two system hosts, simultaneously. The modules are each hot pluggable. The device acts as a serial patch cord between the two system hosts, with a standard form factor module plugged into the system hosts at either end.

High speed interface converter module

The transceiver includes a housing, a transmitting optical sub-assembly mounted in the housing, a receiving optical sub-assembly mounted in the housing, a first electrical connector associated with the transmitting optical sub-assembly, a second electrical connector associated with the receiving optical sub-assembly, and an electro-magnetic shield mounted on the housing. The housing includes a first fiber optic connector receptacle, a second fiber optic connector receptacle, and a first side, and the housing is made of an electrically conductive material.

Surface mountable transceiver

A device which retains a polymer mounting block between a metallic cover and a metallic base. The mounting block includes two mounting halves. The mounting halves being hermaphroditic such that a pair of the mounting halves of the mounting block being substantially identical can be assembled in opposite transverse relation to form the mounting block. The mounting half of the mounting block includes a member and two latch arms attached to the member. The member includes a transmitter mounting provision and a receiver mounting provision. The transmitter mounting provision receives a transmitter sub-assembly, and the receiver mounting provision receives a receiver sub-assembly. The transmitter mounting provision and the receiver mounting provision straddle the second latch arm, and the first latch arm and the second latch arm straddle one of the transmitter mounting provision and the receiver mounting provision.

High speed optical interface converter module having mounting halves

A module is provided for attaching to a flexible shielded cable including individual conductors. The module includes a die cast housing, a printed circuit board mounted within the die cast metal housing, a metal D-shell ribbon style host connector associated with the die cast metal housing, first and second apertures formed in the die cast metal housing, first and second guide tabs formed on the printed circuit board and arranged to protrude through the first and second apertures, and insulation displacement contact (IDC) connector header mounted within the die cast metal housing, and an insulation displacement contact (IDC) cover insert affixed to the die cast metal housing so as to engage individual conductors and forces the conductors onto the knife contacts of the IDC connector header when the two are brought together. The die cast metal housing having a base member and a cover. The module is hot pluggable.

The invention relates to an interface module, such as a Giga-Bit Interface Converter module, provided to mate within a host device chassis where, at the rear of the mounting slot, a first connector engages a host socket of the host device. According to the invention, the first connector include sequential mating contact traces on a contact beam of a substrate such that when the module is inserted into the corresponding host socket, certain contacts are connected in a pre-defined sequence such that a first set of contacts electrically engages prior to a second set of contacts which electrically engages prior to a third set of contacts. In further accord with the present invention, the first set of contacts includes grounding contacts, the second set includes contacts for powering the substrate and the third set includes signal contacts. An advantage of this sequence is that the GBIC is grounded before it is powered and powered before it begins passing signals thus eliminating the damage to the GBIC encountered under the GBIC-to-host contact sequence given in the prior art GBIC specification.

Modified contact traces for interface converter

An interface converter module is provided for converting data signals from a first transmission medium to a second transmission medium. The module includes a metallized housing having a first end and a second end. A shielded electrical connector is mounted at the first end of the housing and configured to mate to a corresponding host connector associated with a first transmission medium. The housing includes a flexible metallic shielded cable extending from the second end. The remote end of the shielded cable comprises the media interface which includes an interface connector configured to the connect flexible shielded cable to the second transmission medium. A printed circuit board is mounted within the housing and has mounted thereon electronic circuitry configured to convert data signals from a host device transmission medium to the second transmission medium.

An interface converter module is provided for converting data signals from a first transmission medium to a second transmission medium. The module is housed within a metallized housing having a first end and a second end. A shielded electrical connector is mounted at the first end of the housing and is configured to mate to a corresponding connector associated with a first transmission medium. The second end of the housing comprises a media interface which includes an interface connector configured to connect to the second transmission medium. In another embodiment a printed circuit board is mounted within the housing and has mounted thereon electronic circuitry configured to convert data signals from a host device transmission medium to the second transmission medium. The printed circuit board includes contact fingers adhered at each end in order to form a host connector at the first end of the module and a media connector at the second end of the module. The contact fingers at one end form a male ribbon style connector and the contact fingers at the other end may be used for direct connection to the mating media connector or alternatively the contact fingers may be attached to a separate electrical connector or to optical connectors. The circuit board may also include guide tabs having coatings on their edges for static discharge prior to power being coupled to the module.

The invention provides for an apparatus comprising a pin connector, and a method for assembling the pin connector, where the pin connector comprises a unitary insulator and housing, and a plurality of contact holes that extend between a front and back face of the insulator to receive contacts known in the art. The insulator may also contains an intermediate PCB slot that opens from the back face of the insulator and receives a PCB inserted therein. The unitary housing has a front and back end, where the back end receives the insulator from the front face, and the front end contains an open area that accesses the insulator to another connector mated therein. The invention may also incorporate a key element in the intermediate PCB slot that engages a matching notch on an edge of the PCB. The housing and insulator may include aligning fastener holes that receive fasteners shared by the components of the connector. The connector may also include one or more alignment ribs that extend from the back end forward along an interior side of the top segment of the housing. The pin connector may be assembled by inserting contacts into the front face of the insulator and inserting the insulator in the back end of the housing.
