A production facility for forming elongated products, in particular wind turbine blades, includes elongated mould assemblies that may be accessed on the basis of an appropriate transport system which includes at least one support member laterally positioned between the elongated mould assemblies. The support member is positioned so as to enable a rotational movement of an arm or is configured to change position or includes a rotatable carrier element. The support member may be positioned in a non-interference position, in which one or both mould assemblies can be moved into a position so as to form a composite mould assembly.

Production facility comprising a transport system for processing elongated products, in particular wind turbine blades, with elongated mould assemblies

The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a wind turbine blade in a production facility. The method comprises the steps of positioning a first overhung gantry to extend transversely over an elongated first mold part for manufacturing one of a first part and a second part of the blade, performing a first working action at the first mold part with a first tool mounted on the first overhung gantry, moving the first overhung gantry from the first mold part to an elongated second mold part for manufacturing the other of the first and the second part of the blade, positioning the first overhung gantry to extend transversely over the second mold part, and performing a second working action at the second mold part by means of the first tool or a second tool mounted on the first overhung gantry.

Method and production facility for manufacturing a wind turbine blade

An apparatus comprising elongated first and second moulds () extending in parallel, a drive mechanism () to move said second mould in relation to said first mould, from a first position to a second position so as to form a mould assembly, and a transport system comprising a movable part () movable along the first mould and/or the second mould and supported by an elongated intermediate support member () located between the moulds, the intermediate support member moving from a support position in which it supports the movable part, to a non-interference position in which interference with the moulds and/or the mould drive mechanism is avoided when said second mould is moved from the first position to the second position, the transport system comprising a securing device () for locking the intermediate support member in the support position.
