A system for preparing a coal water slurry, comprising: a first unit for providing a stream of coarse coal water slurry; a second unit for providing a stream of fine coal water slurry; a concentration unit for receiving a portion of at least one of the stream of coarse coal water slurry and the stream of fine coal water slurry, and, providing a concentrated stream having a higher coal concentration than the portion of at least one of the stream of coarse coal water slurry and the stream of fine coal water slurry; and a mixing unit for mixing the concentrated stream and the remaining portions of the stream of coarse coal water slurry and the stream of fine coal water slurry. An associated method is also presented.

System and method for preparing coal water slurry

A system includes a capture system, a storage system, and a return system. The capture system is configured to receive an outlet gas from a gasification system and to extract a component gas of the outlet gas using a regenerable material during a start-up operation of the gasification system. The storage system is coupled to the capture system and is configured to store the component gas extracted by the capture system. The return system is configured to return the component gas from the storage system to the gasification system during a normal operation of the gasification system.

The disclosed embodiments relate to systems and methods for heating a slurry to increase a solids concentration of the slurry while maintaining the viscosity of the slurry below a threshold viscosity. For example, in one embodiment, a system includes a fuel slurry preparation system having a slurry tank configured to hold a fuel slurry, the fuel slurry having a solid fuel and a liquid. The fuel slurry preparation system also includes a heat source and a controller configured to control the heat source to heat the fuel slurry to decrease a viscosity of the slurry below a threshold viscosity.

Disclosed embodiments include a feedstock preparation system that includes a first slurry preparation system that may receive a first portion of a solid fuel to generate a first fuel slurry using the first portion of the solid fuel and a liquid and second slurry preparation system separate from the first slurry preparation system that may receive a second portion of the solid fuel and the first fuel slurry. The second slurry preparation system may produce a second fuel slurry using the second portion of the solid fuel and the first fuel slurry. The first fuel slurry has a first particle size distribution and the second fuel slurry has a second particle size distribution, and the first and second particle size distributions are different.

A gas dehydrator system, including, a desiccant transport wheel configured to rotate a solid desiccant from a first dehydration section to a first regeneration section, a first gas path extending through the first dehydration section, wherein the solid desiccant is configured to collect moisture from a first gas in the first gas path, and a second gas path extending through the first regeneration section, wherein the solid desiccant is configured to release the moisture into a second gas in the second gas path to regenerate the solid desiccant.

Disclosed herein are various types of systems and methods for the efficient production of sulfur from a sulfur-laden gas. The system described herein includes a desulfurization unit, a regenerator receiving sulfurized mass from the desulfurization unit, a sulfur recovery unit, a sulfur track in fluid communication with the regenerator and the sulfur recovery unit, and a sulfur concentrator on a sulfur track. The sulfur stream coming out of the regenerator is concentrated using the sulfur concentrator and converted into a sulfur product at the sulfur recovery unit.

An appliance using water including an incoming water valve is provided. The appliance includes a sensor disposed in-line to an incoming flow of water received from the incoming water valve and is configured to sense a degree of hardness in the incoming flow of water. The sensor includes a sensing element disposed on a substrate. The sensing element includes a sensing matrix, an indicator for one or more chemical species in flow of water, and a selectivity component that reacts reversibly with one or more chemical species in the water. The sensor also includes a light source configured to direct light through the substrate and the sensing matrix. The sensor further includes a light detector configured to receive transmitted light from the substrate and the sensing matrix and to generate a signal representative of selective wavelengths of the light indicative of one or more chemical species in flow of water.

Appliance using a water hardness sensor system and method of operating the same

System and method for purifying and recycling spent brine in a water softener are provided. The system may be made up of a cation exchange resin tank fluidly coupled for passing spent brine comprising monovalent and divalent ions. A fluid mixer valve is coupled to the resin tank and to a water tank to dilute the spent brine to a desired concentration of a regenerant salt, e.g., NaCl. An ion-separation device is fluidly coupled to the fluid mixer valve to receive the diluted spent brine and separate the diluted spent brine into first and second streams. The first of the streams comprises monovalent ions and the second of the streams comprises divalent ions.

System for the purification and reuse of spent brine in a water softener

Aromatic polyethers are prepared by displacement polymerization reaction in the presence of a water-immiscible solvent with boiling point at atmospheric pressure of greater than 110&deg; C. and a density ratio to water of greater than 1.1:1 at 20-25&deg; C. The polyethers are purified by processes comprising aqueous extraction, or filtration, or a combination thereof.

Method for purification of aromatic polyethers

Aromatic polyethers are prepared by displacement polymerization reaction in the presence of a water-immiscible solvent with density ratio to water in a range of between about 0.9:1 and about 1.1:1 measured at a temperature in a range of between about 20&deg; C. and about 25&deg; C. The polyethers are purified by processes comprising aqueous extraction, or filtration, or a combination thereof.

This process produces a sorbent for use in desulfurization of coal gas. A zinc titanate compound and a metal oxide are mixed by milling the compounds in an aqueous medium, the resulting mixture is dried and then calcined, crushed, sleved and formed into pellets for use in a moving-bed reactor. Metal oxides suitable for use as an additive in this process include: magnesium oxide, magnesium oxide plus molybdenum oxide, calcium oxide, yttrium oxide, hafnium oxide, zirconium oxide, cupric oxide, and tin oxide. The resulting sorbent has a percentage of the original zinc or titanium ions substituted for the oxide metal of the chosen additive.

Process for the manufacture of an attrition resistant sorbent used for gas desulfurization

A method of manufacturing an LED lamp includes dispersing color correction particles throughout a suspension media to a viscosity of substantially 2000 cP. In the case of correcting blue GaN LEDs to white light, the particles to be blended are phosphorus having a diameter of less than 20 microns. An LED die is mounted onto a stage and a nano-liter pipette is arranged such that an interface separation of approximately 1 millimeter is achieved between the tip of the pipette and the surface of the LED die. Once the relatively viscous suspension media covers the LED die, ultraviolet light is directed towards the suspension media to cure it. Heat is then applied to further cure the suspension media until solid as observed under a microscope.

The ammonia content of fuel gas in an IGCC power generation system is reduced through ammonia decomposition, thereby reducing the NO emissions from the plant. The power generation system includes a gasifier, a gas turbine and at least one catalytic reactor arranged between the gasifier and the gas turbine. The catalytic reactor may be either a three stage or two stage device. The three stage reactor includes a first catalyst which promotes water-gas-shift, a second catalyst which promotes CO methanation, and a third catalyst which promotes ammonia decomposition. The two stage reactor includes a first catalyst which promotes water-gas-shift and CO methanation and a second catalyst which promotes ammonia decomposition. The plural catalytic stages may be disposed in a single vessel or successively disposed in individual vessels, and the catalysts may be in a pelletized form or coated on honeycomb structures.

Staged catalytic ammonia decomposition in integrated gasification combined cycle systems

The ammonia content of fuel gas in an IGCC power generation system is reduced through ammonia decomposition, thereby reducing the NO.sub.x emissions from the plant. The power generation system includes a gasifier, a gas turbine and at least one catalytic reactor arranged between the gasifier and the gas turbine. The catalytic reactor may be either a three stage or two stage device. The three stage reactor includes a first catalyst which promotes water-gas-shift, a second catalyst which promotes CO methanation, and a third catalyst which promotes ammonia decomposition. The two stage reactor includes a first catalyst which promotes water-gas-shift and CO methanation and a second catalyst which promotes ammonia decomposition. The plural catalytic stages may be disposed in a single vessel or successively disposed in individual vessels, and the catalysts may be in a pelletized form or coated on honeycomb structures. Alternatively, fluidized bed reactors may be used. The reactions are carried out either adiabatically or non-adiabatically. Heat from the water-gas-shift and CO methanation reactions may be used to generate steam, which can be injected downstream or sent to a steam turbine. Preferably, a second catalytic reactor is provided in parallel with the first reactor so that the two reactors can alternately receive fuel gas from the gasifier.

Staged catalytic ammonia decomposition in integrated gasification

A method of fuel gas desulfurization comprises the steps of introducing fuel, such as coal, into a gasifier, heating the fuel in the gasifier to a temperature so as to form a gaseous fuel mixture containing sulfur compounds, and conveying the gaseous fuel mixture over a sulfur absorbing and surface-catalyzing zinc-based sorbent that catalyzes an exothermic reaction to locally increase the surface temperature of the sorbents, thereby enhancing the rate of desulfurization. Additionally, in accordance with the instant invention, the sulfur absorbing and surface-catalyzing zinc-based sorbent comprises a chemical composition of a metal selected from the group consisting of iron, cobalt, and molybdenum that catalyzes an exothermic reaction at the sorbent surface and an inert metal selected from the group consisting of titanium, zirconium, cerium and hafnium for desulfurization.
