A process for preparing an alkoxyalkanoic acid by reacting the corresponding alkoxyalkanol with a resin-supported stable free radical nitroxide in the presence of a NO.sub.x -generating compound and, optionally, an oxidant and/or a solvent at a temperature in the range of from about 0.degree. C. to about 100.degree. C. and thereafter separating out the alkoxyalkanoic acid.

Preparation of alkoxyalkanoic acids

Modified advanced epoxy resins are prepared by reacting (A) an advanced epoxy resin prepared by reacting (1) an epoxy resin having at least one aromatic ring, an average of more than one, but not more than about 2 vicinal epoxy groups per molecule and which contains at least one oxyalkylene or substituted oxyalkylene group per molecule; with (2) a dihydric phenol; with (B) a phosphorus-containing compound.
