Failover methods and systems for a storage environment are provided. During a takeover operation to take over storage of a first storage system node by a second storage system node, the second storage system node copies information from a first storage location to a second storage location. The first storage location points to an active file system of the first storage system node, and the second storage location is assigned to the second storage system node for the takeover operation. The second storage system node quarantines storage space likely to be used by the first storage system node for a write operation, while the second storage system node attempts to take over the storage of the first storage system node. The second storage system node utilizes information stored at the second storage location during the takeover operation to give back control of the storage to the first storage system node.

Failover methods and system in a networked storage environment

The disclosed technology relates to determining physical zone data within a zoned namespace solid state drive (SSD), associated with logical zone data included in a first received input-output operation based on a mapping data structure within a namespace of the zoned namespace SSD. A second input-output operation specific to the determined physical zone data is generated wherein the second input-output operation and the received input-output operation is of a same type. The generated second input-output operation is completed using the determined physical zone data within the zoned namespace SSD.

Methods for managing input-output operations in zone translation layer architecture and devices thereof

Methods, non-transitory machine-readable media, and computing devices that manage resources between multiple hosts coupled to dual-port solid-state disks (SSDs) are disclosed. With this technology, in-core conventional namespace (CNS) and zoned namespace (ZNS) mapping tables are synchronized by a host flash translation layer with on-disk CNS and ZNS mapping tables, respectively. An entry in one of the in-core CNS or ZNS mapping tables is identified based on whether a received storage operation is directed to a CNS or a ZNS of the dual-port SSD. The entry is further identified based on a logical address extracted from the storage operation. The storage operation is serviced using a translation in the identified entry for the logical address, when the storage operation is directed to the CNS, or a zone identifier in the identified entry for a zone of the ZNS, when the storage operation is directed to the ZNS.

Methods for managing storage systems with dual-port solid-state disks accessible by multiple hosts and devices thereof

Methods, non-transitory machine readable media, and computing devices that manage resources between multiple hosts coupled to dual-port solid-state disks (SSDs) are disclosed. Methods, non-transitory computer readable media, and computing devices that determine when a storage element of a data storage device has failed. Address(es) mapped to the failed storage element are identified, when the determining indicates that the storage element has failed. Data corresponding to the address(es) is regenerated according to a data loss protection and recovery scheme (e.g., a RAID scheme). The regenerated data is written to other storage element(s) of the data storage device in order to remap the address(es) to the other storage element(s). This technology allows a data storage device (e.g., an SSD) to be repaired in-place following a failure of storage element(s) (e.g., a die) of the data storage device. Advantageously, entire data storage devices do not have to be failed with this technology as a result of a failure of an individual storage element, thereby reducing data storage device failure rates and associated overhead.

Storage servers use a fast, non-volatile or persistent memory to store data until it can be written to slower mass storage devices such as disk drives. If the server crashes before a write can complete, the data remains safely stored in non-volatile memory. If the data cannot be committed to disk when the server reboots (e.g. because the destination mass storage device is unavailable), it is stored in a file. When the disk reappears, the data in the file may be used to restore a file or filesystem on the disk to a consistent state.

In an embodiment of the invention, a method is provided for updating configuration information associated with a data volume. The method reduces the occurrences of updates of saved configuration information of a data volume by updating the saved configuration information only when a change occurs in a configuration of the data volume.
