Techniques for determining a device(s) to output content are described. A primary device may receive a user input. Skill component configuration data may be determined, where the skill component configuration data indicates at least one display capability for outputting visual content of the skill component. Based on the skill configuration data, it may be determined that a secondary device is usable to present the visual content of the skill component. The skill component may provide a response to the user input, where the response includes: (i) a first portion to be output using at least one speaker; and (ii) a second portion to be output using a display. The primary device may be used to present the first portion of the response as audio and the secondary device may be used to present the second portion of the response as displayed content.

Device selection for outputting content

Devices and techniques are generally described for targeting of devices. In various examples, a first natural language input comprising a first request to output a response may be received by an input device. A first component may determine first data associated with the input device. A plurality of devices associated with the first data may be determined. First state data describing a state of each device of the plurality of devices may be determined. A first device of the plurality of devices may be determined as a target device for the first request based at least in part on the first state data. The first device may be different from the input device. First instructions may be sent to the first device effective to cause the first device to display the first visual content.

Device targeting for content

Techniques for session-based device grouping are described. In an example, a computer system receives first data requesting an output, determines a function to provide content data based at least in part on the first data, determines a session identifier of a session associated with execution of the function, and determines session data associated with the session identifier. The session data includes a first device identifier of a first device, an indication that the first device is outputting the content data, and a second device identifier of a second device. The computer system also causes, based at least in part on the session data including the second device identifier, the second device to output the content data.

Session-based device grouping

Devices and techniques are generally described for voice targeting of devices using content type. In various examples, a first natural language input comprising a first request to perform a first action related to first content may be received. A natural language understanding component may be used to determine first intent data representing a semantic interpretation of the first request, where the first intent data is effective to cause a first skill to perform the first action. A named entity recognition component may be used to determine first slot data included in the first request. The first slot data may identify the first content. First task data associated with the first content may be determined. The first task data may associate the first content with playback on a first device. First instructions effective to cause the first device to perform the first action may be sent to the first device.

Content-based voice targeting of devices using slot and task data

Systems and methods for contextual awareness in dynamic device groups are disclosed. For example, a dynamic device group may be generated while output of content is occurring. When a user provides user input to alter the output of the content, contextual data indicating the devices in the dynamic device group when the user input is received may be generated and utilized by an application to determine which devices are to receive a command to perform an action responsive to the user input.
