The disclosure relates to systems and methods where an adsorption-based modularized gas storage system is integrated with existing off-network gas distribution pipelines, which can increase the system reliability and robustness for delivering gas. The modularized gas storage system is placed downstream of a natural gas producing well and upstream of a gas-based power plant. The modularized gas storage system can increase the capacity of the overall network, which can allow the pipeline network to absorb the fluctuations in gas demand with little if any need to adjust gas production rate and/or while sacrificing little if any survival time. The storage system can also release the stored gas in the case of an urgent need for gas (e.g., due to a shutdown of a natural gas producing well) to satisfy a desired survival time.

Systems and methods for gas storage

A polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) electrolytic cell assembly, and a method for making the assembly, are provided. An exemplary method includes forming a functionalized zeolite templated carbon (ZTC), including forming a CaX zeolite, depositing carbon in the CaX zeolite using a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process to form a carbon/zeolite composite, treating the carbon/zeolite composite with a solution including hydrofluoric acid to form a ZTC, and treating the ZTC to add catalyst sites, forming the functionalized ZTC. The method further includes incorporating the functionalized ZTC into electrodes, forming a membrane electrode assembly (MEA), and forming the PEM electrolytic cell assembly. The method further includes coupling the PEM electrolytic cell assembly to a heat source.

A method for sulfur recovery includes, in a hydrogenation reactor, converting sulfur-containing compounds in a Claus tail gas stream to hydrogen sulfide to produce a hydrogenated gas stream; feeding the hydrogenated gas stream to a quench tower to produce a quenched gas stream by condensing liquid water; feeding the quenched gas stream to a first stage adsorption vessel of a first stage adsorption unit to produce a first outlet gas stream by adsorbing water from the quenched gas stream; feeding the first outlet gas stream to a second stage adsorption vessel of a second stage adsorption unit to produce a second byproduct gas stream by adsorbing hydrogen sulfide from the first outlet gas stream; separating the second byproduct gas stream into a carbon dioxide stream and an enriched nitrogen stream; and regenerating the second stage adsorption vessel using the enriched nitrogen stream.

Adsorption-based Claus tail gas treatment

Systems and methods for heat exchange during gas adsorption and desorption cycling, one method including removing heat from an adsorbent material during gas adsorption to the adsorbent material; storing the removed heat for later use during desorption of gas from the adsorbent material; heating the adsorbent material during desorption of gas from the adsorbent material using at least a portion of the removed heat; and recycling heat during the step of heating to prepare a working fluid for the step of removing heat via temperature reduction of the working fluid.

Integrated heat management systems and processes for adsorbed natural gas storage facilities

Embodiments of the disclosure provide a method and system for sulfur recovery. A Claus tail gas stream is fed to a hydrogenation reactor to produce a hydrogenated gas stream. The hydrogenated gas stream is fed to a quench tower to produce a quenched gas stream. The quenched gas stream is fed to a first stage adsorption vessel of first stage adsorption unit to produce a first outlet gas stream. The first outlet gas stream is fed to a second stage adsorption vessel of a second stage adsorption unit to produce a second byproduct gas stream. The first stage adsorption vessel is regenerated to produce a first byproduct gas stream. The second stage adsorption vessel is regenerated to produce a second outlet gas stream including hydrogen sulfide. Optionally, a portion of the second byproduct gas stream or nitrogen can be fed to the first stage adsorption vessel or the second stage adsorption vessel for regeneration. Optionally, a sales gas can be fed to the second stage adsorption vessel for regeneration. Optionally, vacuum can be applied to the first stage adsorption vessel or the second stage adsorption vessel for regeneration.

Regeneration schemes for a two-stage adsorption process for Claus tail gas treatment

A solid oxide fuel cell assembly (SOFC) and a method for making the SOFC are provided. An exemplary method includes forming a functionalized zeolite templated carbon (ZTC). The functionalized ZTC is formed by forming a CaX zeolite, depositing carbon in the CaX zeolite using a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process to form a carbon/zeolite composite, treating the carbon/zeolite composite with a solution comprising hydrofluoric acid to form a ZTC, and treating the ZTC to add catalyst sites. The functionalized ZTC is incorporated into electrodes by forming a mixture of the functionalized ZTC with a calcined solid oxide electrolyte and calcining the mixture. The method includes forming an electrode assembly, forming the SOFC assembly, and coupling the SOFC assembly to a cooling system.

Systems and methods of use of carbon-based pellets in adsorbed natural gas facility

The method includes the steps of: introducing a bed material comprising a zeolite to a fluidized bed reactor and heating the bed material to a temperature between 550&#xb0; C. and 800&#xb0; C.; fluidizing the bed material with a fluidizing gas and maintaining the temperature of the bed material between 550&#xb0; C. and 800&#xb0; C.; introducing an organic carbon precursor while fluidizing the zeolite for a period of time such that carbon is deposited on the zeolite by chemical vapor deposition to produce a zeolite-carbon composite; and treating the zeolite-carbon composite with an acid solution such that the zeolite template is dissolved and the ZTC is obtained.

The hydrogenated gas stream is fed to a quench tower to produce a quenched gas stream by condensing and recovering liquid water via a water condensate stream. The quenched gas stream is fed to a first stage adsorption unit to produce a first outlet gas stream by separating water via a first byproduct stream from hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen. The first outlet stream is fed to a second stage adsorption unit to produce a second outlet gas stream by separating carbon dioxide and nitrogen via a second byproduct stream. The second outlet stream includes hydrogen sulfide. The second outlet stream can be fed to a Claus unit.
