The present invention includes a process for producing treated filler that includes (a) treating a slurry that includes untreated filler, where the untreated filler has not been previously dried, with a treating composition that includes a treating agent, thereby forming a treated filler slurry, and (b) drying the treated filler slurry to produce treated filler. The treating agent can include a polymer having (i) at least one first group that interacts with the untreated filler and (ii) at least one second group that interacts with a rubber matrix into which the treated filler is incorporated. The present invention also is directed to treated filler prepared by the process, as well as rubber compounding compositions and tires including the treated filler.

Spherically-shaped silica can include a precipitated silica powder having a dparticle size selected within a range of greater than 20 &#x3bc;m and up to 80 &#x3bc;m, a di-octyl adipate oil absorption selected within a range of from 150 ml/100 g to 500 ml/100 g, an average circularity selected within a range of from 0.70 to 1.0, and an angle of repose, of less than 30&#xb0;. The present invention is directed to an electrodepositable composition of a resinous phase dispersed in an aqueous medium. Cationic aliphatic polyester resins and their electrodeposition

A composition is provided comprising a reaction product of (1) a bismuth compound; and (2) an heterocyclic compound having mercapto functionality. Such compositions are useful in electrodepositable compositions further comprising an active hydrogen-containing, cationic salt group-containing resin and a capped polyisocyanate curing agent. These electrodepositable compositions may be prepared without the use of conventional lead or tin catalysts and exhibit excellent properties as cured coatings.

Organosulfur bismuth compounds and their use in electrodepositable coating compositions

An electrodepositable coating composition is provided comprising (a) an active hydrogen-containing, cationic salt group-containing resin electrodepositable on a cathode; (b) a curing agent for transurethanation, transamidation or transesterification curing like at least a partially capped polyisocyanate curing agent; and (c) a catalytic mixture of bismuth and an amino acid or amino acid precursor. An electrodepositable composition is provided comprising: (A) a non-gelled cationic resin which is derived from a polyepoxide and which contains in the resin molecule cationic salt groups and active hydrogen groups selected from aliphatic hydroxyl and primary and secondary amino; and present as a separate component (B) a fully capped polyisocyanate curing agent containing substantially no free isocyanate groups. The electrodepositable composition contains from about 0.02 to 1.0 milliequivalents phenolic hydroxyl groups per gram of resin solids, and from about 0.1 to 2.0 milliequivalents beta-hydroxy ester groups per gram of resin solids. The composition provides excellent corrosion resistance when electrodeposited over steel substrates, and does not require lead in the formulation nor the use of a conventional chrome rinse for the steel substrate pretreatment before electrodeposition.
