A dihedral shaped device is provided, which includes two plates forming between them an angle of [pi]&#x2212;2[alpha], where 0&#x3c;[alpha]&#x3c;[pi]/4. Each plate has a ground plane, at least one dielectric layer and a network of radiating elements. An incident wave is reflected by the device by virtue of a double reflection from both plates. The network of radiating elements of each plate allows a phase shift to be generated, from the exterior towards the centre of the dihedron, along an axis perpendicular to an axis of intersection of the two plates, according to a set phase law, allowing a deviation to be introduced relative to a specular reflection for a given operating frequency.

A radiating phase-shifting cell is designed to favour the excitation of an equivalent resonance of the 'slot' type in a first part of the phase cycle, and to favour an equivalent resonance of the 'microstrip' type in a second part of the phase cycle. This property notably allows the bandwidth of the phase-shifting cells to be optimized. A phase range of 360&#xb0; can in effect be segmented into two sub-ranges of around 180&#xb0;. This segmentation into two sub-ranges is made possible by the complementarity of the resonant modes of the slot or microstrip type. The radiating phase-shifting cell is notably applicable to reflector arrays for an antenna designed to be installed on a space craft such as a telecommunications satellite or on a terrestrial terminal for satellite telecommunications or broadcasting systems.

A phase shifter module (CD), dedicated to a reflectarray antenna, is defined by a characteristic resonant length and, in at least one chosen place, has an MEMS type device (DC, DC') able to be placed in at least two different states respectively permitting and prohibiting the establishing of a short-circuit intended to vary said resonant length, in order to vary the phase shifting of a wave to be reflected presenting at least one linear polarization.

The present invention relates to a dielectric resonator antenna comprising a block () of dielectric material of which a first face intended to be mounted on an earth plane is covered with a metallic layer (). According to the invention, at least one second face perpendicular to the first face is covered with a partial metallic layer () having a width less than the width of this second face. The invention applies in particular to DRA antennas for domestic wireless networks.

Dielectric resonator type antennas

The present invention relates to a wideband antenna consisting of a dielectric resonator or DRA mounted on a substrate with an earth plane. The resonator is positioned at a distance x from at least one of the edges of the earth plane, x being chosen such that 0&#x2266;x&#x2266;&#x3bb;/2, with &#x3bb;/2 the wavelength defined an the dielectric of the resonator. This invention applies to wireless networks.
