A system includes a transmitter configured to transmit data on a first set of frequencies of a plurality of frequencies. The data transmitted on the first set of frequencies is respectively transmitted using a first set of pre-coding matrices from a plurality of pre-coding matrices. The transmitter is configured to transmit data on a second set of frequencies of the plurality of frequencies. The data transmitted on the second set of frequencies is respectively transmitted using the first set of pre-coding matrices. Transmission of data on the second set of frequencies is subsequent to transmission of data the first set of frequencies.

Systems and methods for transmitting using pre-coding with multiple codebooks

A method includes, in a mobile communication terminal, receiving signals from a group of cells in multiple time-frequency Resource Elements (REs). The signals include a desired signal component and an interfering signal component. A subset of the REs, in which the cells are known deterministically to transmit at least part of the interfering signal component and to not transmit the desired signal component, is identified in the terminal. An interference caused by the interfering signal component to the desired signal component is estimated in the terminal, by measuring the signals in the REs in the subset.

Systems and methods are provided for suppressing interference from a received data signal. A characteristic of a channel is estimated, the channel being configured for transmission of data between a transmitting device and a receiving device having two or more receive antennas. A spatial correlation of interference is determined for the two or more receive antennas based on the channel characteristic. The received data signal is filtered based on the spatial correlation.

Systems and methods for suppressing interference in a wireless communication system

The present disclosure includes systems and techniques relating to processing received spatially diverse transmissions. In some implementations, an apparatus includes: circuitry configured to receive signals from separate communication inputs; circuitry configured to filter the signals to reduce noise, interference, or both; circuitry configured to estimate covariance of the separate communication inputs, including estimating a correlation between the separate communication inputs; and circuitry configured to apply the covariance estimation to the filtering circuitry to effect noise whitening and to force an underestimation of the correlation between the separate communication inputs as applied.

Method and apparatus for detecting a desired signal in the presence of an interfering signal

Systems and methods for estimating characteristics of a channel are provided. A transmission of known reference data is received at a receiving device. The reference data is transmitted over the channel that includes one or more desired layers and one or more interfering layers. Characteristics of the channel are determined based on the known reference data, where the determining includes a joint estimation of the one or more desired layers and the one or more interfering layers. The determining includes selecting certain of the layers to be estimated at each of the known reference data and selecting certain of the layers to be estimated over a range of the known reference data. The determining includes solving an equation to jointly estimate the one or more desired layers and the one or more interfering layers based on the selections. The selections reduce a number of unknown values in the equation.

Method and apparatus for jointly performing channel estimation and interference estimation in a wireless communication system

Systems, methods, apparatus, and techniques are provided for receiving signals over a communications channel, generating a plurality of successive estimates of instantaneous interference present in the communications channel at a respective plurality of samples based on the received signals, producing an average interference estimate of the interference channel based on the plurality of successive estimates, and producing a decoded codeword based on i) the average interference estimate and ii) the received signals.

Method and apparatus for measuring interference in a communication system

Systems and methods for suppressing interference from a data signal received at a receiving device, where the receiving device has two or more receive antennas, are provided. Characteristics of a channel are estimated, the channel being a channel through which the data signal was transmitted by a transmitting device to the receiving device. A spatial correlation of interference and noise received at the two or more receive antennas of the receiving device is determined based on the estimated characteristics of the channel. The spatial correlation indicates how the interference and noise received at a particular one of the receive antennas is related to the interference and noise received at another one of the receive antennas. The spatial correlation of the interference and noise is used to suppress interference and noise from the data signal received at the receiving device.

Apparatus for pre-coding using multiple codebooks and associated methods

Systems, methods, and other embodiments associated with processing wireless signals. According to one embodiment, a wireless receiver includes at least one antenna configured to receive a wireless signal. The wireless signal comprises pilot symbols dispersed irregularly throughout a two-dimensional grid. The pilot symbols of the wireless signal are usable by the wireless receiver to estimate the wireless channel at each point in the two-dimensional grid. The wireless receiver includes a pattern logic including hardware configured to generate additional pilot symbols in the two-dimensional grid. The additional pilot symbols generated by the pattern logic along with the pilot symbols dispersed irregularly throughout the two-dimensional grid form a regular distribution of pilot symbols in the two-dimensional grid. The wireless receiver is configured to estimate the wireless channel at each point in the two-dimensional grid based on the regular distribution of pilot symbols in the two-dimensional grid.

Method and apparatus for processing wireless signals

A method for optimizing resource allocation for signal conditioning of DSL or other signal lines includes developing a signal quality metric using crosstalk interference and, optionally, signal to noise level. Use of existing pilot tone training selectively assigned to signal lines allows determination of the signal quality metric. A threshold level is selected and all signal lines having a signal quality metric above the threshold level are assigned crosstalk cancellation resources. Because the total number of signal lines requiring crosstalk cancellation is not known at the beginning, a particular threshold level may result in allocation of more than the available resources or allocation of significantly less than the available resources. When this happens the threshold level may be adjusted and the process repeated until crosstalk cancellation resources are assigned up to a usable limit.

The receive signal includes a desired component conforming to the first communication protocol and an interference component corresponding to the transmit signal. The method also includes processing the receive signal using the interference estimate signal to remove at least a portion of the interference component from the receive signal.
