A gas velocity and temperature sensor system comprising a first thermistor driven at a constant temperature and configured to output a flow signal representative of the power dissipated as a function of the gas velocity and a temperature signal representative of the temperature of the first thermistor, a second thermistor configured to output a gas temperature signal representative of the gas temperature proximate the second thermistor, and a processor responsive to the flow signal and the temperature signals, the processor configured to calculate gas velocity using an empirically derived equation in which gas flow velocity is function of a constant and the ratio of the power dissipated to the temperature difference between the temperature of the first thermistor and the gas temperature proximate the second thermistor, the processor deriving a signal representing the gas velocity.

Gas velocity and temperature sensor system

A measurement system including a plurality of self calibrating probes. Each probe has a sensor for providing a signal related to a physical parameter to be measured, and a connector for interfacing the sensor with a monitor. The connector includes a memory device for storing calibration data unique to the sensor. A cable interconnects the sensor with the connector. The monitor of the system includes a microprocessor for polling the storage device on the probe to extract the calibration data, and a software routine which converts the signal provided by the sensor into a calibrated signal and applies the extracted calibration data to the signal provided by the sensor.

Measurement system with self calibrating probe

A gas flow temperature probe includes a sensor device for sensing the ambient gas cooling rate and temperature; a prenormalizer circuit responsive to and remote from the sensor device for detecting gas cooling rate and temperature signals from the sensor device and for providing calibration data unique to the probe for normalizing the detected gas cooling rate and temperature to generate a normalized gas flow and temperature sensed by the probe; and an elongated flexible cable interconnecting the sensor device and the prenormalizer circuit for transmitting the ambient gas cooling rate and temperature signals from the sensor device to the prenormalizer circuit; a gas flow temperature monitor circuit includes a multiplexer circuit for real time sampling of a number of probes; a scheduler circuit for defining the sampling rate; and a normalizer circuit for combining the gas cooling rate and temperature signals and the calibration data from the prenormalizer circuit for each probe and generating normalized gas flow and temperature sensed by each probe.

Gas flow and temperature probe and gas flow and temperature monitor

A circuit for monitoring the heat dissipation capacity of a cooling medium by defining the initial heat dissipation capacity of the medium at a predetermined temperature of a temperature-sensitive element immersed in the medium. The circuit senses a change in temperature of the element and restores the temperature of the element to the predetermined temperature. Based on the level of power required to restore the temperature of the element to the predetermined temperature, the circuit defines the adjustment in heat dissipation capacity of the medium required to return the medium to the initial capacity. Also disclosed is a system including such a circuit which modifies the heat dissipation capacity of the medium by the required adjustment to return the medium to the initial heat dissipation capacity.

Constant cooling circuit and system

A unidirectional fluidflow sensor system including: a sensing chamber for placement in a fluidflow to be monitored; the chamber including input port means facing toward the fluidflow and smaller, output port means spaced from the input port means and disposed transversely to the fluidflow; a sensing element in the chamber in the path between the first and second port means; and means, responsive to the element, for detecting a change in flow between the input and output port means.
