Described herein are tires comprising a rubber composition based on at least an elastomer matrix comprising from 50 to 100 phr of one or more copolymers of butadiene and of vinylaromatic monomer, having a content of vinylaromatic units of between 0 and 5% by weight and a Tg within a range extending from −110° C. to −70° C.; and a hydrocarbon resin, wherein the hydrocarbon resin is based on a cyclic monomer selected from the group consisting of a distillation cut from a petroleum refinery stream, and/or C, Cor Ccyclic olefins and mixtures thereof, and wherein the hydrocarbon resin has a content of aromatic protons (H Ar, expressed in mol %), a glass transition temperature (Tg, expressed in ° C.), and a number average molecular weight (Mn, expressed in g/mol) that are represented by (1) H Ar>6 mol %, (2) Tg≥95−2.2*(H Ar), and (3) Tg≥−53+(0.265*Mn).

An elastomeric composition is disclosed. The elastomeric composition includes, per 100 parts by weight of rubber (phr): about 5 to about 40 phr of styrene/butadiene copolymer; about 60 to about 100 phr of natural rubber or polyisoprene; a curative agent; an antioxidant; about 1 to about 20 phr carbon black; about 5 to about 40 phr plasticizing agent; about 40 to about 80 phr silica; about 1 to about 20 phr silane coupling agent and about 5 to about 30 phr of a polymer selected from the group consisting of ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer, butyl rubber, poly(isobutylene-co-para-methylstyrene) and poly(isobutylene-co-para-methylstyrene-co-isoprene) terpolymer. The polymer based on ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer, butyl rubber, poly(isobutylene-co-para-methylstyrene) and poly(isobutylene-co-para-methylstyrene-co-isoprene) terpolymer may be functionalized.

The elastomeric composition includes, per 100 parts by weight of rubber (phr): about 30 to about 70 phr of polybutadiene having a cis-1,4 linkage content of at least 95%; about 30 to 70 phr of natural rubber or polyisoprene; about 20 to 50 phr of a processing oil; a curative agent; an antioxidant; about 50 to about 80 phr filler; a silane coupling agent; and about 5 to about 30 phr of a polymer selected from the group consisting of ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer, butyl rubber, poly(isobutylene-co-para-methylstyrene) and poly(isobutylene-co-para-methylstyrene-co-isoprene) terpolymer. The polymer based on ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer, butyl rubber, poly(isobutylene-co-para-methylstyrene) and poly(isobutylene-co-para-methylstyrene-co-isoprene) terpolymer may be functionalized.

Described herein are tires comprising a rubber composition based on at least an elastomer and a hydrocarbon resin, wherein the hydrocarbon resin is based on a cyclic monomer selected from the group consisting of a distillation cut from a petroleum refinery stream, and/or C, Cor Ccyclic olefins and mixtures thereof, and wherein the hydrocarbon resin has a number average molecular weight (Mn) of between 150 and 800 g/mol, and a content of aromatic protons (H Ar, expressed in mol %), a glass transition temperature (Tg, expressed in ° C.), and a number average molecular weight (Mn, expressed in g/mol) that are represented by (1) H Ar≤6 mol %, (2) Tg≥95−2.2*(H Ar), (3) Tg≥125−(0.08*Mn).

Provided herein are isobutylene-based polymer compositions comprising functionalized isobutylene-based polymer with olefinic side chain substituents, and a sulfur donor and/or accelerator cure system. The functionalized polymer is produced via nucleophilic substitution reaction in solution. The present functionalized isobutylene-based polymer compositions together with various accelerators and sulfur donors can form thermosets useful for pharmaceutical and tire applications without the use of zinc or a zinc oxide activator.

Provided herein are thioacetate isobutylene-based polymer compositions comprising thioalkylated functionalized polymer, and a sulfur donor and/or accelerator cure system. The thioalkylated functionalized polymer is produced via nucleophilic substitution reaction in solution. The present thioacetate functionalized isobutylene-based polymer compositions together with various accelerators and sulfur donors can form thermosets useful for pharmaceutical and tire applications without the use of zinc or a zinc oxide activator.

This invention relates to a silane-functionalized resin composition having a polymer backbone, wherein the polymer backbone is selected from at least one of Chomopolymers and copolymer resins, terpene homopolymer or copolymer resins, pinene homopolymer or copolymer resins, Chomopolymers and copolymer resins, C/Ccopolymer resins, alpha-methylstyrene homopolymer or copolymer resins, and combinations thereof, and wherein the polymer backbone is substantially free of styrene copolymer; and a silane, where the ratio of the mole percent of the silane to the mole percent of the polymer backbone in the composition is in the amount of 0.04 to 3.0 as determined by H-NMR.

Functionalized resin for tire applications

Butyl based composition having hydrocarbon resins are provided herein. The hydrocarbon resin has a Tg from &#x2212;10&#xb0; C. to 25&#xb0; C., a number average molecular weight between 20 to 500, a weight average molecular weight between about 100 to about 2000, and a glass transition temperature between about 0&#xb0; C. to about &#x2212;80&#xb0; C.

Hydrocarbon resins for butyl based compositions and methods of making the same

Disclosed herein are copolymers comprising at least one block comprising C8-C12 olefin-derived units, at least one block comprising C4-C6 olefin-derived units, and at least one block comprising C5/C10 olefin-derived units, wherein each block has a number average molecular weight of at least 300 g/mole and two glass transition temperatures (Tg). The olefin block copolymers are formed by combining a first olefin with a catalyst at least a first stage to form a first olefin block, and combining a second olefin with the same or different catalyst in at least a separate stage to form a second block. The copolymers are useful as tackifiers in adhesive compositions and in films.

A hydrocarbon polymer modifier (HPM) is an interpolymer of (i) a vinyl cyclohexene component (ii) a piperylene component; and (iii) a C-Cvinyl aromatic component; and wherein the interpolymer comprises (a) a softening point from 40&#xb0; C. to 160&#xb0; C., (b) Mn greater than 400, (c) Mz less than 15,000, and (d) at least 8 mole percent aromatic hydrogen, based on the total moles of hydrogen in the interpolymer.

High softening point hydrocarbon resins

The present invention is related to a polymer blend, having a melt viscosity at 190&#xb0; C. of 3,000 cP to 12,000 cP, and one or more tackifiers, having a softening point of 80&#xb0; C. to 145&#xb0; C., an aromaticity of 3 mol % to 11 mol % aromatic protons, and a Cloud Point of &#x2212;10&#xb0; C. to 15&#xb0; C. for use in an adhesive composition. The polymer blend includes a first propylene-based polymer and a different second propylene-based polymer, both selected from a homopolymer of propylene or a copolymer of propylene and ethylene or a Cto Calpha-olefin.

Adhesive compositions for nonwoven applications

The present invention is related to an adhesive composition comprising a 50-95 wt % polymer blend and a tackifier. The blend has a first and second propylene-based polymer, both different homopolymers of propylene or a copolymer of propylene and ethylene or a Cto Calpha-olefin. The blend has a melt viscosity, measured at 190&#xb0; C., of 1,000 to 30,000 cP and a crystallization temperature of greater than 60&#xb0; C. The tackifier has a softening point of 85&#xb0; C. to 105&#xb0; C., an aromaticity of 5 mol % to 15 mol % aromatic protons, and a Cloud Point of 45&#xb0; C. to 75&#xb0; C.

Hydrocarbon tackifiers for low temperature application adhesive compositions

A polyolefin is functionalized with two, three, or more terminal coumarin groups. When irradiated with longer wavelength ultraviolet light (e.g., 365 nanometers), the coumarin groups cyclodimerize to form a chain-extended or crosslinked polyolefin. The cyclodimerization can be reversed by irradiation with shorter wavelength ultraviolet light (e.g., 254 nanometers). When the crosslinked polyolefin is used to form a barrier layer in a light emitting diode or a photovoltaic device, scratches in the barrier layer cleave the cyclodimer groups and can be 'healed' by irradiation to reduce or remove the scratches.

Coumarin-functionalized polyolefin and associated cyclodimerization products, preparation methods, and electronic devices

The present invention is related to adhesive compositions comprising a polymer blend of at least two different propylene-based polymers and one or more tackifiers. The polymer blend has a melt viscosity of about 900 cP to about 19,000 cP. When subjected to Temperature Rising Elution Fractionation, the polymer blend exhibits a first fraction that is soluble at &#x2212;15&#xb0; C. in xylene, the first fraction having an isotactic (mm) triad tacticity of about 70 mol % to about 90 mol %; and a second fraction that is insoluble or less soluble than the first fraction at &#x2212;15&#xb0; C. in xylene, the second fraction having an isotactic (mm) triad tacticity of about 85 mol % to about 98 mol %. The tackifier has a softening point, as determined by ASTM E-28, of about 85 to about 135&#xb0; C. and an aromaticity of about 2 to about 12 mol % aromatic protons.
