A resilient HF linking approach can include an HF transmitting device sending an HF connection request to an HF receiving device over an HF channel. Upon receiving an acknowledgement of the request, the HF transmitting device can transmit a predefined data load to the HF receiving device. The predefined data load can be known to the HF receiving device. The HF receiving device can use the predefined data load to estimate one or more parameters of the HF channel, and send estimates of the parameter(s) back to the transmitting device. The transmitting device can use the estimates of the one or more parameters to determine a data rate for use to transmit data to the receiving device aver the HF channel. The HF channel can be a wideband HF channel. The resilient HF linking approach allows of improvement of the performance and resilience of established HF links.

Systems and methods for resilient HF linking

A system may include a first full duplex split site system and a second full duplex split site system. The first full duplex split site system may include a first transmitter and a first receiver. The second full duplex split site system may include a second transmitter and a second receiver. The first transmitter may be configured to transmit a data payload to the second receiver via a high frequency (HF) link on a first frequency. The first receiver may be configured to: instruct the first transmitter to send a command to the second receiver to instruct the second transmitter to establish a maintenance link with the first receiver on a frequency different from the first frequency; and command the first transmitter to begin transmitting the data payload to the second receiver.

High frequency full duplex link maintenance

A method includes monitoring, by a receiver of a first node, a portion of a spectrum. The method also includes receiving, by the receiver of the first node, a signal on a first frequency within a range of frequencies. The method additionally includes determining that the received signal is a link request from another node. The method further includes decoding a proposed link configuration from the link request. The proposed link configuration includes a proposed transaction frequency for a transaction to be sent to the first node from the other node. The proposed transaction frequency may be the same as or different from the first frequency. The method may also include determining, by a processor of the first node, whether the proposed link configuration is suitable. The method may additionally include receiving, by the receiver, at least one signal indicative of the transaction from the other node.

Efficient spectrum allocation system and method

Timing interrogation methods and communication devices utilizing such timing interrogation methods are disclosed. The timing interrogation method may include: sending a round-trip timing interrogation preamble from a first radio node to a second radio node via the ionosphere; receiving a round-trip timing response at the first radio node via the ionosphere from the second radio node; receiving a time of arrival record at the first radio node via the ionosphere from the second radio node, wherein the time of arrival record indicates the time of arrival of the round-trip timing interrogation preamble at the second radio node according to timing information maintained by the second radio node; calculating timing information based on the time of arrival record and a propagation time of the round-trip timing interrogation preamble and the round-trip timing response; and adjusting time information maintained by the first radio node according to the calculated timing information.

Wideband high frequency based precision time transfer

A system and method for ad-hoc beyond line of sight high frequency (HF) radio frequency communication is disclosed. Embodiments of the present invention may augment the HF waveform incorporated with Advanced automatic link establishment (ALE) to determine relay-hop paths between a plurality of HF nodes. Systems herein may setup and teardown bi-directional one hop HF communication sessions between two HF nodes having RF connectivity directly as well as through an intermediary relay node. Additionally, the setup and teardown may include bi-directional relay hop HF communication sessions between two HF nodes through multiple intermediary relay nodes. In performing the bi-directional relay hop HF communication sessions, systems herein may select a relay node, perform automatic link monitoring and link re-establishment, support message store and forward, and route HF communication along a path around potential barriers to communication (e.g., nuclear scintillation, solar flares, and coronal mass events).
