A gesture recognition system and method verifies the operability of the gesture system by providing a test target that is configured to generate a test stimulus that is recognizable by the gesture recognition system. The test stimulus from the test target is received and processed in the gesture recognition system to generate a test response. The processor verifies that the test response corresponds to the test stimulus.

Gesture recognition system operability verification

A touch screen display and touch screen system is provided. The display and system include a rigid substrate having a top face, a plurality of parallel conductive scan lines located on the top face of the rigid substrate, a plurality of parallel conductive sense lines located on the top face of the rigid substrate, a plurality of dielectric pads located at junctions of the plurality of scan lines and plurality of sense lines electrically isolating the plurality of scan lines from the plurality of sense lines, a flexible substrate having a bottom face oriented above the top face of the rigid substrate and a plurality of conductive features located on the bottom face of the flexible substrate and electrically isolated from each other.

Resistive touch screen displays and systems

Light emitting diodes, display systems, and manufacturing methods are provided. In an embodiment, by way of example only, a light emitting diode ('LED') include a die and a lens. The die is configured to emit wavelengths of light within a first predetermined spectral range. The lens is disposed on at least a portion of the die and is configured to filter the light emitted from the die such that a second predetermined spectral range is emitted from the LED.

Light emitting diodes, display systems, and methods of manufacturing light emitting diodes

A lighting assembly topology that utilizes spectrum controlling materials to render the illumination compatible with night vision imaging systems. The lighting assembly can be used as either a general illumination source or can be used as a backlight for a transmissive display such as a liquid crystal display. The lighting assembly makes use of spectral filtering which is both transmissive and absorptive for specific spectral regions. The exit port of the lighting assembly is completely filtered with a red and near infrared reflective filter. The absorption of the near infrared spectrum to which NVIS are sensitive is reflected by the typical near infrared reflective filter covering the exit port and absorbed within the material lining the housing of the lighting assembly.

Spectrally controlled display backlight emissions for night vision imaging system compatibility

A dual mode or multimode backlight containing LEDs as a light source. The backlight has light cavity containing a reflective material. The cavity has an opening to allow light to be directed to a display source such as a liquid crystal display (LCD). Two sets of LEDs are provided, one set for day mode and one set for night mode. The night mode LEDs is fitted with an NVIS filter. The day mode LEDs is fitted with a filter that suppresses the phosphorescence from the day mode LEDs. The filter suppress the IR energy and allows maximum luminance from the day mode LEDs. During night mode operation, the backlight is flooded with light. Filtered light from the NVIS LED's would impinge on the day mode LED's causing them to phosphoresce. The filter over the day mode LEDs removes the infrared energy from the phosphorescent light emitted from the day mode LEDs.

Methods of and apparatuses for reducing the solar or infrared loading on display devices. A reflective material is positioned between a radiant energy source and the absorptive material of a display device to reflect wavelengths of radiant energy in the infrared or near-infrared range. The reflective material allows visible radiant energy to be transmitted, while reflecting the infrared radiant energy to reduce the infrared loading on the display device. The present invention reduces the temperature rise of the display device due to infrared loading by reflection rather than absorption of the radiant energy, while preserving the integrity of the visible wavelength range. The reflective material reduces the infrared loading on the display device by up to 50%.

Method of and apparatuses for reducing infrared loading on display devices

A photographic facsimile of a line image at a predetermined orientation is illuminated by a collimated monochromatic light source to produce a diffraction pattern. The diffraction pattern is focussed by a converging lens to image the Fourier transform of the line image on a spatial frequency plane. The image in the spatial frequency plane is applied to a detector for measuring the spatial power distribution as a function of the spatial frequency. The line image is then reoriented in the image plane, and successive measurements made as the image is rotated in the image plane. Resolution is quantified in the spatial frequency plane as the magnitude of a selected signal as a function of displacement (i.e, spatial frequency). By simulating selected imaging components and generating a resultant line image, the resolution of any imaging system component may be measured.

Method and apparatus for measurement of resolution of imaging systems

A photographic facsimile of a line image at a predetermined orientation is illuminated by a collimated monochromatic light source to produce a diffraction pattern. The Fourier distribution of the diffraction pattern is focussed by a converging lens to image on a spatial frequency plane of spatial signal and spatial noise components. The image in the spatial frequency plane is applied to a detector for selectively measuring the spatial power contribution of the signal and noise components, thereby to provide a measure of image quality relating to imaging system signal-to-noise ratio. A spatial filter (18) may be introduced into the optical path to block the spatial signal components, while allowing the noise components to impinge on the detector. The line image is then reoriented in the image plane, and successive measurements of spatial signal and noise contributions repeated. The ratio of signal-to-noise power is then computed for each orientation of the line image. By simulating selected imaging components and generating a resultant line image, the effect of such components on noise may be determined.
