A multiple layer hollow cylinder is provided. An inner air-tight material is wrapped about at least a portion of a mandrel to form a plurality of first material loops. Each first material loop subsequent to an initial first material loop at least partially overlaps a previous first material loop. A resin-infused fabric material is wrapped over the inner air-tight material to form a plurality of second material loops. Each second material loop subsequent to an initial second material loop at least partially overlaps a previous second material loop. An outer air-tight transparent material is wrapped over the resin-infused fabric material to form a plurality of third material loops. Each third material loop subsequent to an initial third material loop at least partially overlaps a previous third material loop. Energy is directed about the outer air-tight transparent material to cure the resin-infused fabric material to form a hollow cylinder.

Multiple layer hollow cylinder and method of making

Additive manufacturing of a pipe is disclosed. A lowering mechanism is configured to be coupled with respect to a platform and to lower a pipe through an opening in the platform. An extrusion head is configured to receive material and selectively extrude the material via a nozzle. A gantry is coupled to the extrusion head and is configured to move the extrusion head to an identified location. A controller is coupled to the gantry and configured to direct the gantry to move the extrusion head based on pipe data that identifies a geometry of the pipe. A stabilizer mechanism is configured to maintain the pipe in a desired position during the extrusion of the material.

Additive manufacturing of pipes

A cold water pipe assembly, and mechanisms for generating a cold water pipe assembly, are provided. A plurality of mooring lines are secured to a pipe end member. A pipe segment of a plurality of pipe segments is slidably coupled with respect to the mooring lines at a plurality of locations on a pipe wall of the pipe segment. The plurality of pipe segments is iteratively extended to form a pipe assembly of a desired length by joining a next pipe segment to a previous pipe segment to extend the pipe assembly, and lowering the pipe end member and the pipe assembly by extending the mooring lines. At least some of the next pipe segments are slidably coupled with respect to the mooring lines at a plurality of locations on a respective pipe wall of the at least some of the next pipe segments.

Resistance measurement system and method of using the same

A large scale structure includes a plurality of panels, wherein each panel has at least one opening therethrough. And each panel has opposed edge profiles that are positionable next to adjacent panels and opposed end profiles that are positionable next to adjacent panels. A plurality of rods extend through aligned openings so as to interconnect the plurality of panels to one another. And a plurality of coupling nuts, each coupling nut attachable to an end of one of the rods, wherein the coupling nuts secure the panels to one another. An insert with apertures aligned with the openings allows a rod to extend through the insert and facilitate securement of the insert to the plurality of panels so as to form a section. Additional sections can be assembled as needed to form the structure.

Large scale structures

The present invention enables the passive initiation of a deployment sequence for a countermeasure payload. The invention comprises an initiator coil that is positioned inside an electromagnetic countermeasure launcher. When the electromagnetic countermeasure launcher electromagnetically generates propulsive force to propel a payload to its deployment position, inductive coupling between one or more propulsion coils of the launcher and the initiator coil induces current to flow in the initiator coil, which thereby initiates the deployment sequence.

Electromagnetic initiator coil

A system includes a housing and an electromagnetic coil within the housing. The electromagnetic coil is arranged in a coil stack. A thermal damper is positioned adjacent to the electromagnetic coil, and a thermal structural plate is positioned adjacent to the coil stack. The thermal damper manages temperature rise of the electromagnetic coil and the thermal structural plate provides cooling to the coil stack. In an embodiment, the system is used to launch projectiles.

Thermal management for electromagnetic coil systems

A restraint for immobilizing a projectile with respect to its launch system is disclosed. When electromagnetic force is applied to the restraint, the restraint releases the projectile, thereby enabling its launch.

Electro-magnetic restraint

A system for launching a countermeasure device is disclosed. In the illustrative embodiment, the system uses an electromagnetic catapult to throw a countermeasure payload, wherein the azimuth, elevation, and propulsive force of the electromagnetic catapult are controllable.

Electro magnetic countermeasure launcher

An apparatus that provides shock absorption and ejection for a payload that is to be deployed from a launch capsule is disclosed. The payload ejection mechanism comprises a movable housing that houses a resilient member and a shock-damping system. The rapid acceleration of the capsule upon launch causes the movable housing to move, which compresses the resilient member, thereby storing energy. Movement of the housing also provides shock damping behavior. A locking mechanism maintains the compression of the resilient member until the capsule opens to deploy the payload. As the capsule opens, a restraint decouples from the locking mechanism and permits the resilient member to expand. Expansion of the resilient member causes the movable housing to move, thereby propelling the payload away from the capsule.

An electromagnetic missile launcher is disclosed that provides greater flexibility for use with a variety of missile types and also provides potentially higher performance and efficiency as compared to prior-art electromagnetic missile launchers.

The illustrative embodiment of the present invention is a munitions launch system. The launch system comprises a canister and a cold launch system. In the illustrative embodiment, the cold launch system comprises a sled and a release system. In the illustrative embodiment, the release system includes a sled release mechanism, which releasably secures the sled to the munitions canister, and a munitions release mechanism, which releasably secures a munition to the sled. Actuation of the sled release mechanism releases the sled for movement within the canister. After the sled moves some minimal distance under applied force, the munitions release mechanism 'automatically' actuates, releasing the munition from the sled so that the munition can be ejected from the canister.
