A bolus that communicates with an external transceiver by way of radio waves produced by an electrically small H-antenna is described. The electrically small H-antenna is connected to a conductive cylindrical antenna that houses a battery and chipset that includes a transceiver, identification information and at least one sensor. The H-antenna and the conductive cylindrical antenna are arranged so that electrical currents that produce the radio waves are essentially always aligned to work together. The bolus is essentially a hermetically sealed capsule containing the antennas that is meant to be ingested by a cow or other ruminant animal. The bolus is configured to transmit radio waves in essentially an omnidirectional pattern more efficiently when the boluses inside of a cow stomach than when the boluses outside of the cow.

Bolus antenna system

An omni direction antenna comprising a substrate having a first side and a second side with a first conductor coupled to the first side of the substrate and a second conductor coupled to the second side of the substrate is provided. The first and second conductors comprise wide elements substantially aligned over narrow elements. The antenna further has a terminating element shorting the first and second conductors. A feed element is coupled to the first side wide element, the feed element comprising at least one transmission line, at least one impedance matching element, and at least one ground plane substantially aligned with the at least one transmission line.

Antenna arrays and methods of making the same

A single feed multiple band planar antenna is provided. The planar antenna includes a radiating plate having a first end and a second end opposite the first end residing in spaced apart relating to a ground plane. A shorting post couples the radiating element to the ground plane and a feeding post couples the radiating plate to radio frequency power. The planar antenna further includes a second radiating plate having a first end and a second end where the first end of the second radiating plate coupled to the feeding post and substantially aligned with the first end of the first radiating plate and located between the first radiating plate and the ground plane.

A dual slot radiator is provided. The dual slot radiator comprises two slot radiating elements of different lengths having a single power feed. The power feed generally comprises a microstrip feed line connected at a first end to a power source and each of the slot radiators at a second end.

An antenna is provided having a relatively wide bandwidth of operation. The antenna may be a printed circuit board dipole antenna having a ladder balun feed network coupled to a ground plane and dipole radiating elements located about one-quarter wavelength from an edge of the ground plane. The ground plane acts as a reflector to increase antenna gain. A plurality of the antennas may be provided in an array configuration with antennas being located in relatively close proximity and being isolated from other antennas in the array. An array of antennas may be used to provide a wireless link in a wireless network utilizing a IEEE 802.1X frequency band.

Microstrip antenna

To attain the advantages of and in accordance with the purpose of the present invention, a connector for an antenna is provided. The connector comprises a nut, insulator, contact pin, sleeve, and a captive housing. The connector is such that the housing can be positioned and angled relatively to a radio frequency device as desired and then locked in place by tightening the nut (or interface) on the device.

Antenna joint connector

The present invention provides a support for an antenna. In particular, the present invention provides a substrate with conductive transition pads for a co-linear coaxial antenna array. The transition pads are constructed and arranged to properly provide power and phase shifting to the antenna array.

Omni-directional antenna arrays and methods of making the same

A compact planar antenna is disclosed wherein a radiating element in the shape of a right triangle is formed on a substrate. A ground plane may be positioned on one or both sides of the substrate. In one embodiment, the radiating elements are positioned on the substrate in groups of two or more in close proximity to one another. In another embodiment, the radiating elements are arranged in an array.

Compact planar antenna

A compact planar antenna is disclosed wherein a radiating element in the shape of a right triangle is formed on a substrate. A ground plane may be positioned on one or both sides of the substrate. A slot extends into the radiating element from one side thereof.

Multi-band planar antenna

A compact, multi-band planar antenna for wireless communication devices is disclosed and which comprises a dielectric substrate having a first radiating element formed on one side thereof. The radiating element has a triangular shape and has an opening formed therein. A ground plane element is formed on the other side of the substrate. Various embodiments of the antenna are also disclosed.

A microstrip antenna includes a ground plane element and a radiating element. An elongated trough is formed generally in the middle of the radiating element so as to divide the radiating element into two generally equally-sized portions, and in a manner to extend outward from a bottom surface of the radiating element. The trough includes a first side edge, a second side edge, and a bottom surface. A first radiating portion extends from the first side edge, and a second radiating portion extends from the second side edge. The trough provides an elongated microstrip-size element at the bottom surface of the trough. A relatively thin dielectric layer is provided between the bottom surface of the trough and a corresponding portion of the ground plane element, thereby providing that a microstrip transmission line is formed by the bottom surface of the trough, the thin dielectric layer, and the corresponding portion of the ground plane element. A first feed conductor is connected to the ground plane element, and a second feed conductor is connected to the bottom of the trough.

A transmit/receive antenna selectively operates to transmit or receive at one or more of a plurality of different frequencies in the MHz range. A planar transmission line diplexer or multiplexer that is selected from the group microstrip multiplexer diplexer/multiplexer and stripline diplexer/multiplexer connects an input/output port to a plurality of antenna ports that are physically spaced from each other and from the input/output port. One antenna element is connected to each of the antenna ports. The transmission line diplexer/multiplexer includes a plurality of individual microstrip/stripline elements that have a characteristic impedance and a length that are selected such that the transmission line diplexer/multiplexer automatically provides a matched impedance path between a given antenna element and the input/output port when an antenna-matching frequency is received by the given antenna element or when the antenna matching frequency is applied to the input/output port. At the same time, the transmission line diplexer/multiplexer automatically provides a very mismatched impedance path between all others of the antenna elements and the input/output port.

An antenna is formed from a single sheet of generally planar metal that is cut to provide four geometric antenna shapes that comprise a ground plane element, a two-section shorting element that is defined by two generally parallel fold lines, a radiating element, and an arm that has one end fixed to a generally central portion of the radiating element and has a free end that extends toward a fold line. Folding the metal sheet on the two fold lines positions the radiating element above the ground plane element. A transmit/receive coaxial cable is aligned with a gap that is formed between the two sections of the shorting element. The cable's outer metal sheath is connected to a metal tab, and the metal tab is secured to a surface of the ground plane element. The cable's center conductor is secured to a surface of the radiating element. A radome and its mounting tab complete the antenna assembly.
