A cable is provided for detecting tampering thereof. The cable has at least one copper signal cable, a binder, an inner jacket, an armor, and at least one optical fiber sensor element, disposed within the cable. The at least one optical fiber sensor element is configured attenuate under stress to the cable, sufficient to detect a breach or tapping of the copper signal cable therein.

Cable with fiber optic sensor elements

A cable is provided for detecting tampering thereof. The cable has at least two copper signal cables, at least one hollow buffer tubes located abutting the two copper signal cables, an inner jacket, an armor, and at least one loose tube optical fiber sensor element disposed within the cable in a configuration that subjects the optical fiber sensor to external conditions. The at least one loose tube optical fiber sensor element is located between and abutting at least one of the copper signal cables and the at least one adjacent hollow buffer tube. The at least one loose tube optical fiber sensor element is configured attenuate under changes in the external conditions.

A multi-tube optical fiber cable has a core with a first set of one or more optical fiber tubes, each having one or more optical fibers loosely arranged therein. The first set of tubes is constructed of a polymer having a low Young's constant modulus. The core also includes at least two strength members with a first binder arranged around the first set of optical fiber tubes and the strength members, where the first binder is substantially flat in shape such that there is no deformation of the first set of tubes, and where the strength members are offset from a central axis of the cable. The cable maintains a second set of a plurality of optical fiber tubes, each having one or more optical fibers loosely arranged therein, arranged around the outer circumference of the core.

Fiber optic cable with improved flexibility, low temperature and compression resistance

A fiber optic cable is provided having a at least one fiber element, a layer of aramid strength members, and a jacket disposed over said layer of aramid strength members. The layer of aramid strength members is wound at a lay length that is equal to or lesser than a predetermined bend radius.

Fiber optic cable for cordage or tactical applications

An arrangement provides for an optical fiber cable having a plurality of fiber optic elements including a glass portion and a UV optical coating portion. A plurality of buffer tubes each contain one or more of the plurality of optical fibers made of a fire retardant polymer. A jacket surrounds the buffer tubes also made of a fire retardant polymer. The fire retardant polymers for the plurality of buffer tubes and for the jacket are selected from PVDF (PolyVinyliDene Fluoride) or FRPVC (Fire Resistance Poly Vinyl Chloride). The ratio of total polymer to UV optical coating of the fiber optic elements, by area, is substantially in the range of 5:1 to 9:1.

Fiber optic cable

A multi-tight buffer fiber optic cable includes a first layer of tight buffer optical fibers and at least one second layer of tight buffer optical fibers surrounding the first layer of tight buffer optical fibers. A jacket surrounds the at least one second layer of tight buffer optical fibers, where the first layer of tight buffer optical fibers and the at least one second layer of tight buffer optical fibers are helically wound, and where the at least one second layer of tight buffer optical fibers are helically wound in the same direction as the first layer of tight buffer optical fibers and at substantially the same lay length.

Fiber optic cable design with improved compression test results

A fiber optic cable is provided with a plurality of buffer tubes each with one or more optical fibers, a plurality of strength members and a jacket. The fibers within the cable meet maximum attenuation of substantially 0.07 db increase when decreasing from &#x2212;23&#xb0; C. to &#x2212;60&#xb0; C.

Fiber optic cable with improved low temperature and compression resistance

An assembly of fiber optic elements includes at least two subunits, each of which has at least one fiber optic unit and a flat binder wrapped over the subunits into an arrangement. The at least two subunits are stranded in a S-Z arrangement at a first lay length and the binder is stranded over the subunits in a uni-directional helical lay at a second lay length. The payoff tension and the first lay length of the subunits, combined with a payoff tension and the second lay length of the binder are simultaneously sufficient to hold the subunits within the arrangement, while being loose enough to allow a single subunit to be removed without destroying the arrangement.

Fiber optic arrangement using flat wide water swellable binder for subunit access

An optical fiber cable having a plurality of optical fibers, at least one tube surrounding the optical fibers and a plurality of strength members positioned around the tube. A jacket surrounds the tube and the strength members, where the ratio of polymer used to form the tube and the jacket is at ratio of substantially 10:1 versus the strength members in terms of cross sectional area at any point along the cable and where the Young's modulus of the at least one tube and the jacket is substantially in the range of 250-750 N/mm.

Optical fiber cable and method for making the same

A multi-tube fiber optic cable maintains a plurality of fiber tubes, each fiber tube containing at least one optical fiber therein. The plurality of fiber tubes are disposed apart from a central axis of the cable. A plurality of strength members are disposed apart from a central axis of said cable. An outer jacket surrounds the plurality of fiber tubes and the plurality of strength members and is formed from a pressure extruded polymer. The plurality of fiber tubes and strength members are held in either one of an oscillated geometry or a helical geometry by the pressure extruded jacket.
