An apparatus for sensing the integrity of an antenna which is located within a wristband and which is coupled to a wrist worn communication device having a receiver, and an antenna sensing circuit which generates an antenna sensing signal. The antenna sensing circuit monitors the antenna sensing signal and derives an antenna integrity indication signal which indicates the integrity of the antenna. An indicating circuit is responsive to the antenna integrity indication signal and provides a sensible indication of the integrity of the antenna, such as a message indicating the antenna is open.

A selective call receiver with memory is described for use in a system providing user initiated alteration of the content of the memory using reconfiguration information transmitted from an external source. The receiver comprises a circuit for generating a user activated programming authorization signal, a receiver for receiving the transmitted reconfiguration information, and a circuit for altering the content of the memory in response to the received reconfiguration information only in the presence of the user activated programming authorization signal.

A communication receiver is disclosed which can turn itself on or off depending upon the time of day. When the receiver is on, normal battery saving is performed. A time of day clock generates a time signal which is compared to predetermined turn on and turn off times. The turn on and turn off times may be permanently stored in memory or may be manually programmed at the receiver or may be received by the receiver and stored in a reprogrammable memory.
